point blank the album is amazing and this is coming from someone who came in thinking tha carter 4 would be some trash

Cash Money delivered Carter IV to Universal about 10 days in advance, which Williams says was necessary to press the two million units being shipped in its first week. “The goal is to sell a million-plus copies,

do you even listen to lyrics

Must that matter (partly the point)?

At the end of the day, what you listen to should be enjoyable to you and only you--first and foremost.

For some people, "lyrics" play a big role in this enjoyment, and for others, it matters little.

That said, why must the latter group be deemed as "uneducated" simply because they don't value lyrics as much as the former group?

You listen to rap music, I listen to classical music--am I justified in calling you "uneducated" because you listen to music that (arguably) apotheosizes crime, violence, misogyny, discrimination/prejudice, etc? Catch my drift?

...

I keep tellin myself I have to play it through again to get a feel for the album but I just can't. To me it's just a bunch of ramble rappin and ramble serenading. Couldn't really grasp the concepts of the songs half the time

I get what you're saying completely, but your last statement pretty much negates everything before that.

How so?

The key word in the last sentence is: arguably.

I'm not saying that rap is entirely concerned with "crime, violence, misogyny, discrimination/prejudice," but a critic of the genre could certainly argue the point. The evidence is plentiful, after all.

A real critic of the genre should know all aspects of rap/hip hop, and be able to distinguish as such. So if a critic or someone who may mostly listen to rock or classical music makes
a blanket statement, yet are only hearing Gucci Mane, Wayne, Plies, and Waka Flocka, then they don't even have the credibility to try to argue that point.

...and I too completely agree with you, and what you just said is what prompted my initial post.

The fact that certain folks are making blanket statements about others because of their interest (latter group)/disinterest (former group) in one particular artist.

If you are going to ridicule/criticize a person's intellect based off their interest in one particular artist, all the while being oblivious to the diversity or lack thereof of their musical cache, "then [you] don't even have the credibility to try to argue that point".

Or am I wrong?

Oh yea I agree with that. You can never attribute intellect to whatever music there is, no matter if there are enough people to make that even a fact.
