The respect given... does that come just from this being familiar, like "reminds me of me and my friends back in the day," or a higher form of art? Because if it's just the former, I don't see how this is really that
. As long as this thread is in general, why not frame it like that? They're trying to make an old hip hop aesthetic new again, and then the dude throws in a reference about weirdos, feeling out of place, blah blah blah. I.E. this is supposed to be cool because it's coming from a "hip" young black dude who would never otherwise say something like that, at a time when the whole "bully" thing is mainstream, viral, or whatever the popular term is now. I don't know, feels pretty cheap and easy to me. Just sayin'.
