The Bible chronicles since the beginning of man, and the Bible talks about other animals such as goats, cows, whales, birds, lions, pigs, but never a Brontosaurus. And how big would Noah's Ark have to be if there were 2 of every animal aboard? This is a serious thread, no troll. I have asked clergy and I have never gotten a straight answer.[/COLOR]

But doesn't the Bible start from the very beginning (inb4 Higgs Boson) about how everything thing was created? Moses wasn't alive that early but we still have Book of Genesis, so why isn't it there?

I think I qualify as an apologist, and I'm VERY young in my journey Of faith but I look at it like this. There is no mention of dinosaurs because there doesn't need to be any mention of dinosaurs. If you Look at the Bible as a reference for the way god wants you to behave and not as a comprehensive history of the planet, it may put your mind at ease. The addition of dinosaurs doesn't do anything to advance God's will or spread the message.

But its not like early civilizations were doing tons of excavations to figure out what came before them. The guy above me posted some verses referencing some unknown creatures showing that Old Testament writers were not paleontologists, but men describing their surroundings in the terms they understood. With regard to Moses, I'm just pointing out that his histories in Genesis were meant as a basic history of the Hebrew civilization up to his life, not an exhaustive collection of his knowledge.

and to answer your question, I think we really only know a very very small portion of the big picture and Christianity is how I've been able to understand that little piece. To me, its like God's given us enough for us to wrestle with, chew on, and figure out for now and we'll keep learning as time goes on.

came in to mention these. many christians interpret these versus as depicting dinosaurs. the only problem is that any remains of a dinosaur predate the bible by several millions of years. tc, i don't really understand the point of the original post to be honest.

edit: i'd like to clarify that christians interpret these versus to mean that the bible mentions these creatures (that are possibly dinosaurs) because they existed in bible times. that is why i said afterwards that dinosaur remains predate the bible.

depending on which story in genesis you look at God either creates animals first or humans first. If you look at the story of animals coming first then thats where you can throw in dinosaurs... God made earth in 6 days but who knows how long a "day" took... thats a relative term and its different on different planets...

The point is that anyone can nitpick at the bible... you can nitpick at movies and television or minor flaws in your friends but it doesnt make you smart and you're missing the point... try to understand deeper meanings and concepts .. understand how the lessons apply to your own life... the bible is not just a bunch of random stories or common sense like how people view the 10 commandments.. and you don't have to believe in god to learn something from this book..

There are two predominant theories. The first being the long day theory for Genesis 2. This being that the earth was not created in seven literal days but rather over a significantly longer period of time. Since the Hebrew word used for "day" meant "long period of time" this is more practical and would explain many of the geographic changes the earth has experienced. Therefore, since Dinosaurs were created before man, it's also possible that they died off before man as well. The second is the destruction during Noah's Ark. It took Noah 120 years to build it for the smaller animals. Imagine what it would have taken to accommodate the dinosaurs.
