but we know you think that that is the point

3 steps ahead while some of you think you got atheists figured out

im sounding like a blowhard but i like to be blunt/real

the world is not here for your simple human life. just because you have feelings and can think for yourself (thank you brain :) i dont know why youre here but youre here :) ) does not mean the creator of this rock we live on, mars, jupiter, the sun, the universe, and the other universes we dont even know about, sent a msg to other humans about 2000 years ago to show you how you should live life. why are YOU so fourtunate enough to have a msg from the creator of this universe? if a bomb was set off and all life (humans, plants, animals, etc) that was on the earths surface was disintegrated, would this rock still float in space? yes. would 1 second still equal to 1 second? 1 min would equal to 1 minute? yes. do you think god would be mad the human race is gone? oh noes what life lessons are they going to learn now? will he stop the rest of the universe and universes from existing? some humans think that theyre the center of the universe. we're just the smartest thing within our scope. thats it. nothing else.

there is nothing wrong with thinking the "word of god" is unlikely/illogical but most of you dont even want/cant to visit the idea.

There are two predominant theories. The first being the long day theory for Genesis 2. This being that the earth was not created in seven literal days but rather over a significantly longer period of time. Since the Hebrew word used for "day" meant "long period of time" this is more practical and would explain many of the geographic changes the earth has experienced. Therefore, since Dinosaurs were created before man, it's also possible that they died off before man as well.
There is nothing that boils my blood more than the "well god maybe meant 6 days as 6 million years"

As if thats the same span of time or even a relevant conversion.

All you're doing is admitting how ridiculous the idea of a 6 day creation period is...AND "god" rested. I mean as if a god would need ...to rest?

The god of the bible is an anthropomorphized entity with the emotions, irrationality, and inconsistency of the human authors that authored its text.

Do you all think god really said "let there be light" to himself?
The second is the destruction during Noah's Ark. It took Noah 120 years to build it for the smaller animals. Imagine what it would have taken to accommodate the dinosaurs.
Did the Ark include all species of bacteria and archaea?

My favorite part is how the bible mentions nothing about say...the chinese.

depending on which story in genesis you look at God either creates animals first or humans first. If you look at the story of animals coming first then thats where you can throw in dinosaurs... God made earth in 6 days but who knows how long a "day" took... thats a relative term and its different on different planets...

The point is that anyone can nitpick at the bible... you can nitpick at movies and television or minor flaws in your friends but it doesnt make you smart and you're missing the point... try to understand deeper meanings and concepts .. understand how the lessons apply to your own life... the bible is not just a bunch of random stories or common sense like how people view the 10 commandments.. and you don't have to believe in god to learn something from this book..
There is not one thing valuable in the bible that you couldn't learn anywhere else.

The bible is ONLY valuable as a representation of a cultural perspective of life in a small portion of the world at a specific time in history.

This doesn't even touch on the history of the modern KJV bible and its many revisions.

The addition of dinosaurs doesn't do anything to advance God's will or spread the message.
God couldn't defeat soldiers in iron chariots...because they were made from iron.

Good thing people in the middle east 2K years ago didn't have the Bessemer Steel process.

Ever wonder that? I mean I am a Christian by faith but I wonder that. The Bible chronicles since the beginning of man, and the Bible talks about other animals such as goats, cows, whales, birds, lions, pigs, but never a Brontosaurus. And how big would Noah's Ark have to be if there were 2 of every animal aboard? This is a serious thread, no troll. I have asked clergy and I have never gotten a straight answer.
EWD, i respect your posts and I certainly appreciate your honesty here.

Remember, if something doesn't make sense, its often not your fault. It can ACTUALLY be the context itself.

Just think about how reasonable such a concept sounds. Its sounds like nothing more than a hyperbolic story from a bronze-age camp-fire story.

And of course clergy don't have straight answers. They're people who have spent their lives creating ridiculous conclusions for legitimate questions so long as they can hide behind whatever "faith" they align themselves with.

Remember this: If you can't believe in that one part of the bible, how do you know the rest of it is true?

Also, any theists should just by now learn to not get offended about this stuff. Its just utterly unreasonable and no one is attacking you if you're just going to underhand these baseballs of logic to get smacked out of the park. If we're talking about the validity of the book, it doesn't get to escape the tests for legitimacy and inquiry.

First, it mentions large beasts that could be dinosaurs.
Second, only idiot atheists and idiot christians think the Bible is a science book.

Why should it boil your blood? Why not look it up yourself. You're pretty good at researching the other side of things to debunk them. If anything, it's interesting that a book that's 5,000 years old is consistent with the scientific way that modern scientists have observed the order of creation of our planet even though the medieval church was trying to disprove scientific observations.

I didnt mean you HAVE to read the bible.
You could say that about anything.. does it make it any less important? is the tao te ching only "valuable as a representation of a cultural perspective of life in a small portion of the world at a specific time in history". is "the art of war" outdated because its concepts are in a million other books? "

doesn't the bible say that dry land, the seas, and vegetation were created before the sun, moon, and stars?

No. Just stop.

Its not, especially when you're going to make vague statements without any objectively mooring or substantiated claims.

God created "light" before he created the "sun"

...or is that just another kooky liberal anachronism?

If we're just going to move the goal-posts then yes, the bible is right when it calls Bats the same thing as Birds. Leviticus 11:13-19

actually, I'd venture to say that real and ACTUAL christians might have more a valid stance in claim the bible to be science. Why not? I mean aren't they supposed to believe in the inerrancy of the book itself?

Who are they to take fault with a book that they're supposed to believe in?

I'm sure "god" wouldn't be happy knowing his "most faithful" doubted some of the very literal parts of the book he wrote/inspired.

So are the stories in the bible supposed to be taken serious or not? I swear nobody ever has a clear answer. The unbelievable stories that is. Humanly impossible feats. Are they to be taken metaphorically?

My theory is that they were a part of the nephilim that were mentioned in Noah's day.Nephilim were fallen angels who began to procreate with the women on earth and produce giants who were all yolo everything. Cannibalism and beastiality were a part of their every day lives. Also those fallen angels sinned against birds, reptiles, and other animals creating hybrid monsters that were a part of the genetic mutation and were considered "unclean".

Proof?

You use the word "theory" so where is your evidence?

If its a metaphor then "god" doesn't exist as stated nor did anything ever really happen as its implied.

If you're not going to establish a standard by which to measure the claims of the book, then you can't take ANY of it seriously, not even the parts you really and truly cling to.

"It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled."

I think I qualify as an apologist, and I'm VERY young in my journey Of faith but I look at it like this. There is no mention of dinosaurs because there doesn't need to be any mention of dinosaurs. If you Look at the Bible as a reference for the way god wants you to behave and not as a comprehensive history of the planet, it may put your mind at ease. The addition of dinosaurs doesn't do anything to advance God's will or spread the message.

That's clearly the answer. There are a lot of things not mentioned specifically. I'm by no means a young earth creationist but I don't think that dinosaurs or the fossil record or geology do anything to oppose a created world.

The burden of proof is on the person making a claim.

You can't assert: "Well prove this idea wrong then"

It doesn't work that way. If you think the world was created, you have to substantiate what your reasons or evidence are for supporting that idea.

The claims and the things supporting them stand on their own.

You can't prove a negative to a claim.

ALSO, if you're going to claim this as the answer then you also have to assert that every OTHER living entity made it on board that ship.

That includes viruses, bacteria, archaea, and all eukaryotes of every form and degree of complexity if dinosaurs were the ONLY ones left out.
