Met someone at a time when my mentality was a bit immature and I was a bit defensive from previous situationship, turns out this one could've been quite the catch....

Maybe it's just human nature to wonder...

Im more of a never look back type of guy, but this person has recently been brought up by mutual friends

I think the whole "wrong time of my life" thing is a justification that guys use for failing. It's easier to blame it on that than take responsibility for not locking down the right person. It's a common cop-out for guys who are afraid of giving up a single lifestyle.

Sure - certain times in one's life are more and less conducive to developing a serious relationships but if you are able to realize that someone is the right person for you, man up and overcome the challenges.

So what i mean is the right person at the wrong time or point in your life....

At that point, because of my mindset I may have come off as a playing the field for fun type to her when I was trying to get at her (hit her up w some finesse)....

No response, more than likely because she was hip to me trying to finesse

In your honest opinion, do you think that an individual might really fear trading in the single life? If so, what exactly is the reasoning for this fear?

Ya most definitely. Take a look around some of the threads on this site for instance. People value having different options and are afraid of commitment. I think it's natural to fear giving up the relative freedom of being single, though if it's the right person, you should overcome that fear.

Based on the scenario you posted, the problem there is that you aren't being genuine/honest. It seems like you were trying to get the girl by playing games and that backfired. Don't blame it on you being at the wrong point in your life. You messed up. Accept it and learn from it.

Also, I wouldn't throw around the right person term loosely. I don't think it's possible to know that someone is right for you without spending significant amounts of time getting to know them.

Yeah, I hear you man, very valid points you made. I appreciate that, I can agree that at that point in life I was not so mature (hence the finesse).

As Im getting up there in age, I wonder why commitment is such a phobia sometimes, and why having options is considered such a valuable.

Yes. There have been women in my life that could have made near perfect girlfriends. Either I wasn't mature enough and focused on partying during my college years. Or now I'm so focused on my career that I only want casual physical relationships. Those are missed opportunities but the risk you take with priorities.

Yes

You could be immature, dating someone else, about to move.

Don't know if the person was truly for me but I've experienced all 3

I'm dealing with #2 currently. Not only does this girl have a BF but she's a co-worker. Not even bothering with TAY because I'm staying away like the bubonic plague.

As you grow older and begin to focus on career moves, do you ever fear one day looking up and being alone? Like the day will come where you're Mr. CEO, but possibly at the expense of a family to go home to at night?

OP, what's the wrong time? What's going on in your life right now that you can't commit?

Haunts my dreams. The good ones truly do go when you wait too long.

Three important exes in my life have been hitched within the past 2 years. One was my first love, another a college flame, and lastly a girl I had crazy physical chemistry with.

Yes

Definitely regret not pursuing a few girls who I was pretty sure were into me because I was pursuing other girls or if having a girlfriend wasn't even close to being one of my top priorities at the time/I was dealing with other stuff. By the time I had realized a few of them could have been the right person it was too late.

Over the summer I met a girl and we went on dates and talked almost every day. She got in trouble with her parents and was grounded for the rest of summer and so I didn't get my chance to close the deal. She was into me, but since she was heading off to a different college than the one I'm at she didn't want to try a long distance relationship. Can't help but think if she really cared then we could have worked through it, but timing definitely played a large part.
