....did Duran force him to fight the way he did? Many feel Leonard fought the wrong fight that night,
opting to stay and fight in front of Duran, rather than stick and move. But prior to this fight, Leonard really
never did fight like that, and was more in your face and throw combo's. Although Leonard had the tools
to fight like that, I think what happened was that Duran FORCED him to fight, not Leonard choosing not to.
Duran was truly on fire that night, feinting beautifully, throwing that right hand constantly, and really cutting off the ring.

A great performance from Leonard, but that was Duran's night.

What do you guy's think?

no opinions?

Sugar fought the wrong fight IMO if he took advantage of his speed he would have mopped Duran. My dude Tommy Hearns put Duran out of commission with that righthand. Hearns is one of the most underrated fighter ever IMO.

but for that Hearns mention, Duran was 20 pounds above his prime weight, 33, and facing the worst possible match up in Hearns.
That fight has no bearing on this one.

you'd probably get more opinions in the boxing thread. most of the members here weren't even born when that fight happened

....but since your here, whats your opinion on thefight?

Leonard fought the wrong fight you just dont stand infront of Duran and try to fight on the inside you wont win . Duran will win a rough brawl all day , yousaw the changes Leonard made in the second fight he used his speed and range for to frustrate Duran never letting him get a rhythm started .

Then again, it wasn't the same Duran in the rematch.
He was notorious for blowing up in between fights, and was around 170 after Montreal.
Leonard knew this and exploited that fact which is why he wanted a rematch so quickly (5 months later)
Although a good win for Leonard, it wasn't the same Duran from Montreal.

Leonard spoke at my high school graduation. When I met him I said "NO MAS NO MAS!" and he said "Roberto fan huh!"
