I got my *** whooped when I was younger so only see right to pass it along. But na not sure how im going to discipline my kids with the way things are going in American and dudes getting arrest for said acts.

I smack them when it's a safety issue. Strong verbal prompts when they get disrespectful and calm/nurturing reinforcement when explaining why I smacked em

You should always explain why they're being punished too. Helps foster corrective behavior.

I say yes and no, its the environment the kids live/raise can. Lack of any type of discipline could lead to violence.

I've been talking to her like an adult since the day she came home from the hospital. She's had a CLEAR understanding of right from wrong at an early age. There's nothing that can't be accomplished (disciplinary) through a discussion.

Not every person is the same. So where as some people respond that way, others don't.

Like some people have kids that just a simple time out will do it. Others have kids that need the fear of God put into them. It isn't a universal thing

I got whupped with everything as a kid (belts, metal/wood chopsticks, judo sticks).

I really don't know how modern day kids can grow up to be decent, non-spoiled, non-******* people without getting the hands.

My old man only put hands on me a handful of times. I deserved it every time. If I ever hit someone he would hit/slap me in the same place and ask me how I liked it. If I was behaving bad and he gave me the look I knew to calm down because he wasn't afraid to lay down the law. He always spoke to me in a calm and mature manner and questioned why I did whatever I did. I'd say that's the reason I was one of the more mature kids my age, I learned I needed a reason to do whatever I was doing.

edit: He also made examples of just about anything he could. If he saw some dude high on drugs acting a fool, he'd always point them out and say "Don't worry mijo, drugs don't do anything to you" in a sarcastic manner. A couple times in public places when some youngster would be acting a fool, he'd point them out especially if they were in a group. He'd always emphasize that it's easy to act tough and do things in a crew, so don't let that get to my head is what he said, and if I was about that life, I'd better be the same if I was alone.

I remember I was in Walmart and this toddler pointed towards this book bags that was hanging up and said he wanted it

I'm the one that takes responsibility for disciplining my little brother n nephew. My Pops is too lenient, n my sis is too strict. Therefore, they usually refer to me.

I feel I'm fair in their punishments, majority of the time I kneel, so I can be eye-to-eye with them, n explain why what they did was wrong.

Sometimes, around family n those close to me, I may lose my temper after having to repeat myself, or fight to keep their attention, n yell at them. I'm not gonna lie, there are moments I do cuss, but I don't call them names. I don't cuss to degrade them, it's more of a way to emphasize my anger n embarrassment.

I also whip them with a belt if they deserve it, although this is very rare, n always done privately; no one needs to see that, this isn't a show. I will whip them once with my belt, n allow them to finish crying before voicing my discomfort doing so, then explain the error in their ways. I will also slap their faces, if they continually lie to me; I will not stand for lying.

However, most times I inform them of a whooping, I elect not to follow through. I use it as a way to show I'm always paying attention, n that I've given them enough chances, but when we go to another room, I lecture them, so as to teach them.

I always hug it out n tell them I love them after any type of discipline as well. I don't discipline them to be mean nor hurt them, it's so they learn how to conduct themselves as boys, n eventually as men. Love them too much to ever do anything out of malice.

Depends on the situation and severity of it. Children don't really grasp and understand Respect, but they know Fear.

Well, my son is only 1, so nothing real yet except a lil smack on the hand when he tries to yank stuff out of the outlets


I got my *** whooped as a kid, but not OD. So I plan to carry out a similar act of discipline.

Just like someone already said, verbal correction when it's nothing serious, a few licks when it's something that's putting them in danger, and always explaining why they are being disciplined.

Imo that's the best way for a child to learn that there's repercussions for their actions.

Now if one day I have to pick his grown *** up from the police station for some stupid ****, Ima cave his chest in.
