Yes, some animals mate with one partner for life and cheating on said partners is a very common occurence if given the opportunity.

Like others of its family the male Raggiana Bird of Paradise has elaborate breeding plumage used to impress females.[sup][135][/sup]

Ninety-five percent of bird species are socially monogamous. These species pair for at least the length of the breeding season or—in some cases—for several years or until the death of one mate.[sup][136][/sup] Monogamy allows for biparental care, which is especially important for species in which females require males' assistance for successful brood-rearing.[sup][137][/sup] Among many socially monogamous species, extra-pair copulation (infidelity) is common.[sup][138][/sup] Such behaviour typically occurs between dominant males and females paired with subordinate males, but may also be the result of forced copulation in ducks and other anatids.[sup][139][/sup] For females, possible benefits of extra-pair copulation include getting better genes for her offspring and insuring against the possibility of infertility in her mate.[sup][140][/sup] Males of species that engage in extra-pair copulations will closely guard their mates to ensure the parentage of the offspring that they raise.[sup][141][/sup]

Other mating systems, including polygyny, polyandry, polygamy, polygynandry, and promiscuity, also occur.[sup][39][/sup] Polygamous breeding systems arise when females are able to raise broods without the help of males.[sup][39][/sup] Some species may use more than one system depending on the circumstances.

Breeding usually involves some form of courtship display, typically performed by the male.[sup][142][/sup] Most displays are rather simple and involve some type of song. Some displays, however, are quite elaborate. Depending on the species, these may include wing or tail drumming, dancing, aerial flights, or communal lekking. Females are generally the ones that drive partner selection,[sup][143][/sup] although in the polyandrous phalaropes, this is reversed: plainer males choose brightly coloured females.[sup][144][/sup] Courtship feeding, billing and allopreening are commonly performed between partners, generally after the birds have paired and mated.[sup][50][/sup]
Yea, but cheating on your spouse derives from  religion. And I'm pretty sure there arent any practcing catholic animals out there, well besides humans of course. Anyways I don't want to go off topic. But animals don't cheat.

I'm not even sure to respond to this.

You can be non-religious and still cheat on your life partner/wife whatever you wanna call them. The reason why some animals are monogamous is because the chances of their offspring surviving are greatly increased by a collaborative effort between the male and the female. Some animals don't need to expend that much energy on child rearing because they make so many offspring eg. eggs it becomes a numbers game. Animals that have one offspring per breeding cycle usually spend more collaborative energy rearing their young. So if a male bird, leaves its mate to start a mating cycle with another female...it is cheating.

I don't know what the moral implications are for animals but strictly from a reproductive standpoint the female or male that gets cheated on is getting a bad deal.

Probably not in regards to your spouse, it was common for tribes to have multiple wives and mistresses even til this day. The spread of modern religion calls that a sin. Do some reading and stop trolling.
Wrong. wronger and +*++#%%  wrongest...

Ya'll just be making *@** up to FEEL right. :In short, cheating IS wrong because it 's WRONG to promise to be monogamous and then go against that. It's equally wrong to pretend to care when yo don't. God didn't say "Let there be monogamy!". Common damn decency did. Stop tryna justify being a prick. If you wanna be a prick, there are way too may women that love that type of *@**. Don't make excuses though.. be who you are. And if you feel ashamed or feel the need to justify why you do the things you do, CHANGE.

^^^Yeah but some people don't make promises to be monogamous or even care to love someone. There are families and couples out there that live and practice polygamy. I am not saying it's right but if there is an understanding amongst the people that are doing it, then that is their doing. One of the most famous person to do this is Hugh Hefner and I think all his girlfriends go into the relationship knowing what they are doing. It might not be right amongst the majority but what he is doing isn't necessarily wrong.

AT all, Anton... It's not cheating if the understanding is that other people will be in and out of the relationship.. in that case, it would be cheating on yourself NOT to keep options
pimp.gif
.  That's the key... there are PLENTY of women that are down for "alternative relationships" so messing over the ones that aren't is STUPID to me. Cheating is STUPID to me.

^^^^^Also remember that the OP questioned cheating with animals and not humans. All this understanding is thrown out the door because I doubt animals know know what is right from wrong. When talking about this with humans, I think it is a different story but I think with animals, you can pretty much have sex, procreate and go off and have sex with someone else and not feel bad about it.

there is no such thing as cheating, it is just something we made up. animals don't cheat because they are unaware of our made of rules of right and wrong. we associate our feeling sad that our mate has left us for another with something that is bad however there really is no such thing as a bad act. any act that can be preformed is neutral because as long as it can be preformed then it abides by the laws of the universe and is natural, how can anything natural be bad? killing another human being isn't bad it is natural however we associate the feeling of sadness and fright with this made up word. we then label it bad or wrong because we don't want to feel these feelings. feelings aren't real they are just hormones that are there to persuade us to act a certain way to ensure our survival and eventually procreate as much as we can. if cheating was real and unnatural or "wrong" then naturally it would not occur however cheating by the definition does occur a lot. once a male human has procreated attraction to other mates does not cease to exist, the male still feels compelled to spread his seed.
