I know we've all heard stories, but can I get some insight from the military folks on here?

Honestly NO! especially if ur a cop/deploy alot. at least 80% of the people i know that have been married  are either been divorced or at least in the process of getting a divorce. Plus majority cheats on their spouse in the military.

It still comes down to have a great woman/man who will hold you down and not cheat.

but the military is tough on marriages.

Most don't.  I think my unit had around a 70% divorce rate after deployments, but at the same time NTer Mr. Chester McFloppy is still married to the same woman.

My dad was in the army 20 years and has been married to my mother for 20+ years. It's alot of work but it can be done. He did tell menacing a guy in Germany who was accidentally stabbed by his girlfriend. After he died they found out he had a wife and kids in the states no one knew about.

The general population has a divorce rate around 60% though.

I haven't read or seen of anything concrete to suggest it is higher in the military. I know many military men and women I work with who cheat, and who have been divorced, and also many who stayed together. FWIW, my dad deployed 3 times for a yr (Saudi Arabia, Korea, Bosnia) and my parents made it through no problem. I also know of plenty of female soldiers who get ran through by superior officers, and 1SGs who go out of their way to try and get shut down.

But again, marriages don't last in general and monogamy is hard regardless.

I heard. Cheating when they're deployed or back at home?

both, mainly when they're overseas, but i hear stories everyday. And don't think its just the one at home doing all the cheating.

theres a sh1tload of other factors than just the military and as others have posted, the divorce rate for civilians is over 50%

lots of ppl that get married in the military have this "lets hurry up and get hitched now" attitude that comes from the possibility of a deployment and then the reality of a deployment really screws things up

as far as the cheatin, yes TONS happen, on both sides

toss up really to ask if they last, there are exceptions to the rule but most do not end well
