We've all heard the saying but is it true?

Besides the initial attraction, is someone you're similar to or the opposite of better in the long run? Do those differences of someone opposite keep it interesting since they bring a new element to the table and make for a stronger connection since it requires a coming together of differences? Or do the differences in personality make it prone to unstability? What about for similar people?

Does the saying apply to friends as well or is it "birds of a feather flock together"?

Discuss.

No. It happens but that's not the norm. On average people end up with someone that shares a similar interest.

Only thing my girl and I have in common is that we played sports

I like it because it allows us to explore things we normally wouldn't on our own...

ask ur mom n dad this. they have a longer relationship in which u can find answers.
fact is, no two people are a like, so getting along with anyone is already a challenge. at the end of the day, u last longer with someone you can click with.

In my case, yea. Me and my ex were opposites (sign wise - gemini man, sagitarrius woman) and we def hit it off when we got cooking.

But imho it doesn't last. You find out you have more dissimilar than similar and after a while you begin to clash. You need someone who has a healthy apprecation for you and vice versa. There needs to be some similarity especially in areas like understanding, values, morals, etc. The rest of the stuff should compliment each other not supplement.

You go into these things as whole individuals. **** that noise about having a void and filling it with another person.

We grown now.

i never liked this saying

im attracted to someone that is educated, likes the same music i like, and has the same outlook on life as me

On the other hand I dont want them exactly like me, i want to learn from them and them learn things from me

but for the most part the more similarities the better

Man my parents are too dysfunctional to take anything from.

They're total opposites in almost every aspect so maybe that means something about the long run.

Opposites in regards to what?
Specifically personality, but interests/activities as well.

Like most things in life there needs to be a balance. I believe a couple needs to have the right amount of similar and different interests to make the relationship work. Things they can always fall back on when **** gets rough and initially bond over. And things they can expand each others horizons with. And also ways to keep each other in check.

Sometimes.....

I only like guys who are introverts like me though

I think its different with friends though

Nah we're not magnets.

Like attracts like. Psychologically it's proven we find familiarity, comfort, and security, in people we deem like us because we see ourselves in that person.

When a potential wife/mother of child(ren) is like us we can reaonably estimate what she will be like as a wife and mother which is attractive.

Human beings find stability, familiarity, security just as attractive as large breasts

:lol I remember in the beginning of my relationship, my girl found like every reason why we had so much in common...

It's like she only focused on what we had in common (minor things) and neglected the differences...

More into our relationship, we both learned that we are very much opposites, completely different...

So yes, regarding OP's subject. I do believe opposites attract!

Repped.

I don't think it can be broken down that simply, but for argument's sake I'll say opposites don't necessarily attract. I'm thinking in terms of interests.

I think it's more so that people of similar mentalities/mindsets are attracted to each other. I think my parents are very different in terms of their interests, but they are very similar minded people.

Differences and similiarities between two people are way more granular than some of ya'll are making it out to be "same music, same education" etc doesn't mean similar. Personality quirks, how you address issues when they arise, how you interact etc mean much more.

Yeah, in my case it's interracial relationships.

I've always had a thing for thick white women.

But there is truth to sexual magnetism, whereas some people have it more so than others.

its never black and white...

I'd imagine, in most cases, you share similiarities and also have distinct differences.

each relationship, the numbers are going to fluctuate accordingly, but at the end of the day, it's a mixture of both.

You have to have something in common, but its good to bring differing things to the table too.

I think you gotta either have same personalities if you have different interests or have the same interests if you have different personalities.

This is the right answer.

I'd say no. Sure that **** may be cool at the moment when ya'll barely know each other, but as time goes on, I can see the differences breaking
