Does anyone use Openoffice? need some info if possible!!!!!!!!

My wife is going to school and they dont offer Microsoft office (she only needs Microsoft word) at a discount for some reason...................

I need to know if open office is EXACTLY like Microsoft word?  or are there differences that are obvious and not as compatible as it says????

Any info would be awesome..........

I used it this past semester. I't's straight.
Only problem is when I had to turn papers online, would accept it, no matter the file type I saved it as.

LibreOffice (by the same people that made Openoffice) is 

and I would recommend getting it over OpenOffice since it gets updated faster.

It works good enough as microsoft word for me although I'm just typing up college papers. Just remember to save in a microsoft word compatible format (.doc) when you save.

Check out Libreoffice, the Openoffice developers created it and it's solid. More features and consistent updates.

If you have a hotmail account, you can use microsoft word online, I could even open files using the real microsoft office when I got to school. Or is what i'm talking about what you guys are talking about above?

you can download word for free, look for USB word , or use ORCA an edit WORD so you can use all its features free

I think there may be a $30 option for students to buy Word.  The new version of word blows Open Office out of the water!  I used to use Open Office since I'm cheap, but since moving to word, OO feels so outdated now.  If you don't want to spend any money, Google docs is also a good alternative if you don't need to do a lot of custom editing.
