Does it ever bother you that...

Don't put words in my mouth. I'm more than capable of saying exactly what I mean. For one, I never said they did "more bad than good". I justfeel we as a people would have been much better off if we spent the last x amount of generations building a self-reliant population instead of one that thinksthe answer to every viable threat is a dialing 911. You need police because the society you live in has created a place for them; a role. Would you have neededthem if they never existed? If man is the most sophisticated of the animal kingdom, and there aren't even police in nature, is it not a pretty safe bet toassume we'd be smart enough to police ourselves had not the Powers That Be stripped that option from us LONG ago? Consult your religious text. If"whatever you call your Higher Power" sees fit to hold you 100% responsible for your own life, why would you forfeit part of thatresponsibility to another mortal willingly? You probably wouldn't. That's why no one asked you. They just forced authority upon you. by the time youare old enough to recognize it, you might actually appreciate it. Minus the whips, it sounds like slavery to me. But it's cool... at least your'safe', right?

people who apply to join the police department are susceptible to the same human failings as the rest of us: greed, corruption, racism, sexism, etc.

And yet, it's up to them to patrol us? If we're all the same, why not let us police ourselves according to the rules we've already agreed on as asociety? Is there REALLY a need to elevate one group of people higher than another for safety sake, or are thereulterior motives?

I see what you're saying... Police are regular people so why should they be able to control us, the system is messed up but there isn't too much of analternative the U.S would quickly turn to a the physically strong > the weak scenario ... also, refer to the "are humans are aggressive by nature"thread.

It's the latest trend these days, no big deal. I got more than enough %@$! for the haters to swing on and I still got room for a chick or two, so I'mcool. There's always an intelligent post right around the corner anyways. I appreciate yours.

the thing that bothers me is that because of the low salary, undesirable & dangerous aspect of the job, etc., the law enforcement field tends to attractand employ people who are far from our best and brightest.

this definitely poses some problems when they are given greater power than the rest of us. this is not to say that more intelligent or ambitious people aremorally superior, but with greater education and intellect there tends to be a greater capacity for good decision-making and probably less ingrained sexism, racism, etc.

Knowledge is Power. Power is People.
