It makes perfect sense, even if it is just one more interpretation of the story known by most of the world.
The sun is life and it creates. Without its rise every day then the world we live in would not be the beautiful place filled with life we all know and have grown to take for granted.
Other civilizations and groups of people throughout history have worshipped the sun in one form or another. Some will recognize the sun in its pure form while others will use names and metaphors to represent the sun. Our existence is possible because of the sun and other elements like water. The sun creates food and it brings a a sense of new ness to our existence. The rise of the sun marks a new day and with a new day comes new opportunities and a chance to be productive in our lifetime.
I believe in the sun because it never fails. It brings happiness to our existence because it provides us with fruits and vegetables along with mystery plants that affect our minds and perspective on life. I find it interesting that things like marijuana are so dependent on the cycles of the sun and the fruits of such plant have an affect on our minds and being almost like it was meant to be.

Flaws just off the top of my head:
- Jesus wasn't born on Dec. 25th
- son & sun are merely English words for the things they are describing and wouldn't be the same in Hebrew or Greek when they were written.
Son in Hebrew: ben Sun in Hebrew: shemesh
Son in Greek: Ichthys Sun in Greek: Helios
- If the 12 "followers" were merely metaphors, who wrote their books? and why were they willing to die for their cause when the stars haven't died? (for that matter, neither has the sun)
- Jesus didn't start his ministry until he was 30. He merely spoke in the temple when he was 12.
