Dog adoption

Anyone on here adopt a dog, is there a process or is it kinda straight forward, i was caring for a friends dog for a little over two months and got a feel of dog ownership and grew attached to it, they took her back and im looking into getting one of my own, any cons to adopting versus buying one and any other details to know. Depends on where your adopting from.

Some will put your through a extensive screening process which could take a few weeks, others will simply interview you and let you take the dog that day.

I wouldn't adopt from city owned animal shelters but would look at rescue shelters that are more humane and have a higher level of care.

I wouldn't buy from a private seller or breeders unless I really wanted the dog or a specific type of dog. Typically, your going to pay more going this route.

depends i went thru all types of nonsense looking for a dog to adopt..one place had us have an interview like we were adopting a damn kid..

and some place even gave away the dog i was supposed to get..some dumb volunteer gave us the wrong information..

if its a large place then you can just go in and pick the one you want and you will maybe have to wait a couple of days before you get it..

check other nearby towns too if you dont like your shelters selection..

after they gave the dog we wanted away i just told my girl to lets just chill on a dog obviously it isnt our time to have one,

we went to the mall one weekend and a shelter from a nearby town was having an event there..they had brought all their puppies and placed them in a playpen in the middle, we saw some puppies playing and there was one that was picking on this scruffy looking dog, i told my girl that i wanted the dog that was picking on the other one, but the girl took out the scruffy one..i told my girl really low..i dont want that one, but then we sat down with him and he was so relaxed and chill and he had this natural mohawk that went all the way down to his lower back..he was a stray and he turned 1 on my b-day..the place listed his b-day the same as mine..they didnt have my info either..but anyways..

it took maybe 3 days for us to get him..they neutered him, took out his baby teeth dewormed him gave him his shots and microchipped him..if you were to buy a dog and do all that, it would come out to 400 or so..

i had never trained a dog before but this dude is the man..he listens hes chill and really relaxed, he learned alot of his tricks in one week..

what kind of dog are looking to adopt? do you have a big yard or do you live in an apartment? 

where i live my complex has a weight limit, but i dont think i wouldve gotten a big dog anyway..

Im going to be moving soon and the person living there now owns a dog so atleast i knew the apartment allows dogs, i saw a couple on petfinder and came across a Cockapoo and saw that they to about 12 to 24 pounds and has its shots and is neutered. Dont really have a particular kind that i want, only requirement would be that they remain a small but decent size. I wanted to get a shiba inu but read in several places that they arent the best dogs to have for new dog owners.
