How do they hold up in the rain? I'm on the west coast and it gets fairly moist down here this time of year. I just copped one that says water resistantwith down fill.

depends how wet it gets i guess. even if it's water resistant i'm sure water can get in one way or the other. if it gets wet it'll take forever todry. spray some water repellent spray on it to further protect it.

I shoulda read up on them before I bought one to use as a rain jacket.

But basically as long as the shell doesn't get soaked and seep into the down filling I should be straight, right? I might have to pick up another jacketfor actual rain.

If it rains hard enough, water-resistant won't be enough. Waterproof is the way to go if you can find one.
