What up NT - I used to post on here since like 2000 under the screen name 'galen' but I got banned for (of all things) getting into too many flame warsabout college football. I graduated from Cal in '08, and I'm going to Stanford for b-school in the Fall of '10 so I've basically just beenusing these two intermediary years to live the dream and chill out in SF and do things that I love.

I've been playing about 30 hours of poker per week ( http://niketalk.com/topic/85816?page=1) which I cranked up to about 40 this summer where I spent a few weeks in Vegas playing in tournaments. I worked at a really sick social networking / bettingstartup called Betable.com from September until March, and I've been working for Dr. Bob since then.

Dr. Bob ( http://www.drbobsports.com ) is the most famous sports better in the modern era, and it's pretty sick tohelp him out and get to see how all of his math models and stuff work. I'm helping him with his data, doing PR and marketing stuff and just finishedredesigning his website.

So anyway, the new site is up and I encourage you to check it out. There's a ton of free info and analysis on there during the season, and I wrote what isprobably the most comprehensive collection of sports betting essays available anywhere: http://www.drbobsports.com/essays.cfm?cat=0 . If you guys want to check them out, please do, and obviouslyholler at me if you find any typos or whatever.

Other than that, this thread is basically just for chatter so I welcome all questions that you have about Bob, the industry, online books, Vegas or whatever.Have it at!

We have tried multiple sports betting threads on NT, all of which were locked. I suggest that if we are going to use this thread successfully, we dont discussdollar amounts and things of that nature.

Galen whats crackin mayne, your back... you rolled with WVU also right?

I have some good history with Dr. Bob... I was with him 2 years ago actually, the year he fell off and went like 40%. I was convinced Vegas had him in theirhip pocket and thats why he was just giving us losing picks. I know all about this dude, he is a legend in Vegas but chills up in the bay. Good stuff thatyour working closely with him. I fully expect you to hook it up with some good picks this season

still @*#! with cal football?

Yeah, make no mistake - I still bleed blue and gold! I'm pretty excited, because it looks like I'll be able to make a lot of the big games this year. Ionly go to games that are 5pm or later since I want to miss as little FB as possible and both the Maryland and USC games will be late.

I was president of a fraternity when I was at Cal, and I'm thinking of buying them an extra TV for the main room so that we can multi-screen on gamedays...I can't stand having less than 3 TVs, I need like a constant data stream to my dome, so it would probably be worth it

Can't go to any away games this year though, gotta put in a lot of work on Sundays.

I don't really see why this needs to get locked, although if mods have certain directions I'd be happy to comply.

What I do is highly quantitative, completely legal (and yes, I pay my taxes) and we don't have any affiliations to any sports books whatsoever.

There's really no reason to allow discussion about the stock market, about real estate or about day trading, but to not about sports investing. (Not tomention that we have a higher risk adjusted return than the S&P 500)

Say word? How'd you hook up with Dr. Bob? Dude moves the lines when he drops his picks on Thursdays

Cashed one 1500, bricked the 2k, went to play in the Main Event, got locked out on Day 1-D and wasn't allowed to play, was furious, bricked the 2k and 3kBellagio Cup events instead, won like 3k in a 330 stt and then won the Bellagio 540 lightly for like 12k right before I left.

I put all my trip reports here, they're at the end:

Yeah, still a WVU die hard as well. Gonna be interesting to see how they do this year without Pat.

That's cool that someone on NT was using Bob. I kind of assumed that most people on here don't have that kind of bankroll.

'07 was just a negative variance season, two standard deviations below expectation. Opposite of '05 when we were way above expectation. Swings andvariance are normal. We were pretty standard last year, +50.8% ROI in football -8% ROI in basketball and +34% ROI overall combined.

Should be a solid season... I'm actually running a small hedge fund (less than 60k) this year at super optimized growth #+%!, taking advantage of everyline with > 1% edge, so betting like 40 games a week.

I did a lot of sports modeling in college, and the guy is a legend so I just sent him an email. What I was doing was about a hundred times more complex thanwhat the average sports better thinks about, and maybe a hundred times less complex than what he does. We both went to Cal and lived in SF so it was a prettyeasy meet up. I have startup experience too, which was relevant.

Argh, some of the graphics didn't get loaded correctly in the articles. Should be fixed later today.

Site updated again, although most of the changes were minor.

With site PR + football season coming up and then the Pokerstars WCOOP and the FTP FTOPS in the next month I am about to get no sleep whatsoever.Arrrgggghhhhhhh Summer is ending!
