Are there any recorders that you can just put on the tv like a vcr and record to a hard drive, other than TIVO and dvr's from the cable company?
why do I need to pay monthly fee to record tv i'm already paying for, you don't need to pay to record to dvd or tape so why

does a box or something like this exist?

- you can do this with a PC.

- if you're not tech savvy try the AVS forums. im sure there's some type of third party DVR you can buy, but i doubt it'll work for premium channels......

- after looking around briefly i see your only option is building (or buying) a HTPC. with a few tweaks you should be able to record whatever you want to including HD. here is a link to the AVSForum HTPC Forum and a link to help build your own HTPC.
