Is it against ebay policcy to end an auction early and sell it to the highest bidder? Im not doing the deal through paypal, i just want to end it early and sell to the high bidder. Thanks

I did it a few times before. Just ended the auction, met up with the buyer, and marked it as item is no longer available. This was back in '05 though. I don't know if anything has changed since.

nah, if you wanna end it early and sell it through paypal or someone else.. who cares? no one can tell you you cant... because it is your item, so it is your rules and your decision...no need to explain yourself to anyone else...

If it was that straightforward he wouldn't be asking NT. He wants to know if there would be action against him from ebay

why would there be? it is as straight forward as that... you dont want to sell it anymore, it is your right to cancel any bid or end the item immediately. they ask a reason, item was no longer available or item was sold elsewhere.. other than that, no need to go into details..

Okay, I probably should have clarified my question more. I am selling a pair of bred 1s on eBay. The buyer wants them by a certain date because he wants to give them for someone for a gift. So my question was, if he bids on them, and I end the auction early so he can buy them through eBay, is that against their rules? I know its probably confusing, but I couldn't find it on google so I figured id ask here.

You can always end the auction, start a new one, and put the buy now price as whatever you had intended.

I ended many auctions early and sold PayPal direct. Yes it's possible, yes it's against their policy, **** eBay

You can end it early and sell it through paypal. PayPal have their own protection and so does the credit card company. It's only against rules cuz ebay wants their profits. But they are so big it doesn't even matter

and if you sell it directly through paypal, you dont pay the 10% fee that ebay charges. it is 10% of your sales price and 10% of your shipping (new thing, since a lot of people sold items for $1.00 and charged $199.00 for shipping)

Just be discrete about setting up the PayPal invoice if you choose to sell outside of ebay. Have the buyer text you or something along those lines so that there's no mention of selling outside of ebay in your messages.
There was a thread on NT earlier this year about people getting caught up and banned by ebay for doing the PayPal invoices outside of ebay. You can still do it, I just wouldn't recommend being blatant about it.

I was pretty up front about it and they did nothing to me. I think it's just random if they catch on to it or not. Done more than 60 transactions like that but I've heard of others getting "caught" (not sure the repercussion) and 2-3.

I guess it all depends. I just try and not leave anything blatant in my ebay inbox. Ill get em to text or email me just to play it safe.
Some people are real blatant with it though. Putting "message me for lower price" in their title or subtitle or mentioning PayPal invoices in their listing description.
I've sold outside of ebay a ton of times but after reading that thread where a few members got caught up and suspended or banned from ebay, I've just been more cautious when doing it.

If you end an auction early ebay will charge you the final value fee based on what the auction is at. I think they don't charge you for the first one each month.

No they dont. I've never been charged on an item that was closed early.

Must've changed their policy then for auctions because when I end my bin listings I get hit with the fees.

Why do you get charged, if you item didnt sell? If you want to end an auction you have all the right in the world to do so.

There are some guidelines to the rule but there is a situation where YES you will have to pay if you end the auction with a bid

You get charged if the item has been bid on by someone. The reason, because eBay would have also made money when it ended if it sold (bid on).
