Ebola

for some reason this doesn't scare me.

I feel like it's just another way for the pharma industry to profit

watch tv. its confirmed. and we already knew about the doctors in africa that got it and were flown back here...this is a "civilian" that flew to liberia, got infected there, flew back here and got sick a few days later. again, the cdc had a press conference and confirmed the positive test.

Yep, just saw the live cast. Damn.

As long as Houston is untouched we good tho

the doctors on tv/hosts.etc keep saying that its hard to get it...and they keep repeating the same thing about how its contracted...

but using a real world scenario...is it possible to get it from somebody that sneezes or coughs in your face and their saliva/mucos gets in your eye/in your mouth or you breathe in the particles? serious question.

just curious. also, what about ppl with cuts in their mouth, on their faces, hands, etc.

just trying to think of real world scenarios instead of the "its hard to get" stuff on tv to make us not panic. just trying to get educated, you know?

can you not get it from public restrooms (anybody that has been to one has seen said bodily fluids on the toilets and floor, etc.)

i guess i'm just saying that i don't see it being too far fetched that ppl can get it easier than what ppl on tv are telling us.

America is at no risk to the mass spread of this disease realistically. They'll probably run it across the mainstream media like it is sooner or later though.

Topic of the week.

As long as you don't ingest the blood or feces of an infected person, you're fine.

Basically. Sanitation and all that is top notch compared to those infected African countries.

Topic of the week for sure, but its still good to be informed.

aka I don't know what i'm talking about.

Takes less than 5 seconds to google how to get infected by ebola fam :{

from webmd.com
How Do You Get Ebola?

Ebola isn’t as contagious as more common viruses like colds, influenza, or measles. It spreads to people by contact with the skin or bodily fluids of an infected animal, like a monkey, chimp, or fruit bat. Then it moves from person to person the same way. Those who care for a sick person or bury someone who has died from the disease often get it.

Other ways to get Ebola include touching contaminated needles or surfaces.

You can’t get Ebola from air, water, or food. A person who has Ebola but has no symptoms can’t spread the disease, either.

also, low-key insinuating all those african people got infected by eating feces and other peoples blood when majority of the cases of ebola spreading were due to relatives of infected people taking them out of care facilities and trying to take of them themselves. Stealing their dead relatives from morgues etc... out of ignorance.
But yea I guess they were just eating **** :|

Exactly why I was skeptical of what was said on tv. One could sit on a toilet at a public restroom and come into contact with bodily fluids from someone else. Or have sex with a person and come into contact with bodily fluids. Or be around somebody that sneezes on them on a train and get their saliva/mucus in their face...or am I wrong...?

It's so confusing because they say you can't get it like a cold or the flu but are those not examples of how someone could possibly come into contact with the bodily fluids of another person? Or am I overthinking it. Serious questions.

I was exaggerating to make a point that it's really, really hard to contract Ebola, and that you shouldn't worry about it unless you're actually providing aid to the infected. There are tremendous safeguards and strict protocols in America (thanks to the CDC) that would prevent an outbreak. Unless you plan on going all Dustin Hoffman to combat this thing, you have nothing to worry about.

Also, similar hemorrhagic viruses have made it to the US over the years, but you never hear about it because they are quarantined immediately. The most recent was a case of Lassa this past April.

Ever picked up an STD by sitting on a toilet? Ever picked up an STD by standing near someone sneezing? Didn't think so.

while one could get ebola from having sex with someone with ebola...

since when was ebola considered an std?

oh.

also, can't you get hepatitis A from toilet seats? ebola is different than more well known diseases stateside and they keep saying you can only get it from coming into contact with bodily fluids. all i'm saying is that what does that mean?? whats a real world AMERICAN scenario. none of this handling the body of a family member during a ritual stuff or eating bush meat. things we just don't do here like that.

but we all take mass transit, use public restrooms, have unprotected sex, etc. and bathrooms here are disgusting. i've def seen pee on the floor and on the toilet seat. while i don't **** with ******** in public restrooms, plenty of children do. plenty of children touch things they shouldn't. etc. etc.

i just want to know. is there concern for that or not?

like i'm happy and its great that this person, who from what they're not saying, is a liberian citizen that was visiting fam, took it upon him/herself to notify ppl...but we live in a country and a world where ppl spread std's and know they have them. why on earth are we pretending like every scenario will be like what happened today/this passed week??

what if someone is in denial and we don't know until they're extremely sick or dead? and they've used public restrooms or came into contact with various ppl, while they were sick just not as sick and weak as they could be later on from the disease?

you can't tell me that every single case in west africa is because someone touched someones **** or ingested bush meat or touched a dead person. i'm just not buying that.

You need to be showing symptoms to be contagious. A contagious person would be too sick to be out taking public trans or be out shopping or at an amusement park. The danger would be spreading to his immediate family or whoever is in the household, so they too could get it but not be contagious til they showed symptoms as well.

but aren't some of the symptoms as "mild" as a fever/spike in temperature?

like the first sign isn't bleeding from your eyes and stuff...i'm just saying. correct me if i'm wrong...

...you need to relax fam.

all i'm saying is that questions like the ones i'm asking weren't asked by the ppl chosen to ask questions during that conference. and none of the cdc representatives touched on real world scenarios that would relate to us as to how a person could contract ebola.

saying you can't get it without coming into contact with bodily fluids and its extremely difficult to do so...

but then not having a clear answer for questions i've asked like "well what happens if a west african sneezes in your face on the F train during rush hour" or "what happens if your 3 year old puts his penis on a toilet seat before you can snatch him and tell him not to and to stand back and the seat has pee on it*" doesn't help.

*i've seen this happen...snatched him after the fact because i was a split second too late*

not trying to come off as alarmist. all i'm saying is that they should educate the public and answer more questions from the ppl and not from the ap.

if anybody has fam in nigeria, sierra leone, etc. they should ask these questions. how are that many ppl getting ebola?

why are they predicting upwards to 1.5 mil ppl will have it by jan if its "not that easy to get..."

all those ppl aren't from remote villages. all those ppl aren't eating bush meat and touching dead relatives or are coming in contact with ppl that are doing that. just my opinion.

Considering how much you're freaking out over Ebola, I'm amazed you can even leave your house considering all the bad things that could happen to you on any given day. Of all the things to be concerned about in the world, Ebola shouldn't even register.

You're one of those "yeah, but what if..." people who are basically impossible to reason with. I give up.

1.5 is a stretch because they are going unreported cases as well.

If Ebola is spreading rapidly in those countries, its a big deal cause the rate of transmission "isnt" high there. If Ebola were rapidly spreading here, the rate of transmission should theoretically be much greater since 1. bigger population (especially a large city like NYC) 2. people travel more (personal vehicles, public trans) so if Ebola is here, it should be making a big buzz. One isloated case in Dallas shoudnt cause too much alarm in that respect.

lol.

i'm not freaking out. i'm just asking realistic questions instead of accepting what someone in a white coat says because they're in a white coat.

the other day the secret service told us that the dude that hopped the fence was unarmed. now all of a sudden he was armed and overpowered an agent in the white house.

i'm not going to go off the first thing that i hear. its ok and good to ask questions. no need to insult someone because they want to know and be informed.
