I think people are confusing skill with actual output. Everyone knows Em can rhyme, but he chose to eff around & be the clown. As a result, his albums were not what they should be.

If pure skill was the only criteria, than Canibus & Super Natural would be in everyone's top 3.

He is a career underachiever IMO.

Im not really a fan of his music and there's a bunch of people I'd rather listen to though. I'd rather listen to Nas all day but that doesn't change anything. Nobody is going after Em. Just go to YouTube type in your favorite rapper and what they think about Eminem. Everybody knows but I still can't listen to any of his projects start to finish. I don't need to be a fan to understand how good he is.

He's one of the most technically skilled rappers ever. It's just that he's so far removed from an artist that actually makes good songs, it's easy to knock him down. At one point though, Em also had a very good ear for beats, something Canibus, Chino XL, and several other rappers people could consider better than him can't even say.

Hate to bring race into but you're right, only thing that separated him from white rappers who came before him and also sold a ton of records, is that he actually could rap. But does that necessarily mean he's the best? No, hell no!
