Dirty's right.

But, what annoys me more than that is people who get engaged - and that's it. You're not actually doing anything. What you do when you get engaged is you plan to get married - and not at some unknown point - that should be the point where you start to make plans.

Engagement isn't an end in itself.

here's what I realized.
you'll never be 100% ready

at one point in my life.. I thought..
I'll do it when I'm financially ready
then it became
I'll do it when my career is underway
then it became
I'll do it when I've saved up money for a house
then it became
I'll do it after "XX" amount of years of being together

see where I'm going?... there's always an excuse

that being said...
you SHOULD NOT get engaged b/c
that's what everyone else is doing
that's just the next step for relationships
your friends/parents/gf is pressuring you

However, you SHOULD get engaged b/c
this is the woman you love, want to be with for the rest of your life and makes you feel whole....AND (and this is a bit contradictory) you feel ready to make that next step

Man, you just made it seem too simple. Great advice though.

OP, Try dealing with a girl who you've been with for 2.5 years at the time. Her friend meets a guy in August/September 2009, then November/December He proposes to her.

OMG do you have any idea how crazy that time was?

"I should of been had a ring. We've been together 2.5 years and it only took him 4 months to realize he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life"

. Keep in mind, we discuss kids and marriage so obviously, me being with her for the rest of my life isn't a issue.

Any who, so her friend is engaged for a few months. PROBLEM! She still didn't tell ANYONE in her family. Not even her mother. Females tell EVERYONE about being engaged. That girl didn't even tell her ow mother but my ex actually tried to use them as an example of where we should be?
grin.gif

And just like I predicted they broke up. Her friend said they were moving too fast. Yeah duh right
laugh.gif
.

Rant/story over. The moral of my story is, its just something women do. They see their friends making moves and no matter how idiotic their friends decisions are at times, they still can be envious. Just make sure you have a mature woman who understands that it takes time to get to that point in life. For those that may read and wonder, before we broke up, we were together for 3.5 years. I was going to start looking into all that sometime next year, but guess what? She hit me with, "I don't know if I'm ready to be in a serious relationship at this point." A.K.A I don't know if you're the one.
