Texas' receiving corps has been one of the more dissected units in all of college football this offseason. The Longhorns have several talented pass-catchers, but it hasn't yet been made clear which ones will step up as the main contributors (although veterans James Kirkendoll and Malcolm Williams will likely get the nod at first).
Laken Litman of the Dallas Morning News writes that this uncertainty at the position could allow true freshman Darius White to have an impact in his first year. The big 6-foot-3, 200-pounder fits the physical model of recent true freshman receivers who have broken out, like Georgia's A.J. Green and Alabama's Julio Jones in 2008. The Longhorns figure to be running the ball a bit more in 2010, but having a deep threat like White to stretch defenses would really help out sophomore quarterback Garrett Gilbert. With things currently unsettled at the position, White's chance to have a breakout year is as good as anyone's.
