I'm turning 23 next month and never had a credit card. What's the best way to go about getting good credit?

go to your bank and see if you qualify for one. also, Costco has an American Express, if you're employed you should be able to qualify. Just don't get too much CCs though, one or two is good.

Bank accounts

Credit Cards

Utilities

Department store cards

Small Loans

All things that can help your credit history. Personally I'm 22 and I never plan on getting a credit card, to me it seems like the system is set up to keep you in debt. Basically if you get a credit card you have to keep it forever, if you don't it could wipe out the credit history you gained :rolleyes I have utilities, phone, and bank accounts in my name which should give me some positive history towards my credit report. I've been thinking about getting a department store card and just keeping it forever, on top of a small loan for some personal things I have to deal with. I will say before you get a credit card read up on the common mistakes by cardholders thoroughly, and make sure that they are reporting to a credit agency. I'm sure someone else can chime in but this is what i've learned recently.

Put all your bills like cell phone, internet/cable on automatic payments. Stash the card and only use it for those bills right now.
Pay off the bill in full every month (think of it as having one big bill instead of 3-4 medium ones).
Your credit will go up because you are proving you can pay your bills on time. Once your credit goes up than get a another card with better interest rates/higher credit limit. Use that for purchases, leisure.

Its gonnna take some will power at first having a credit card and not using it, but you cannot miss what you never had.

As said previously...be sure to pay your bill off IN FULL every month. A lot of future trouble will be avoided that way..

Get a secured credit card with your bank or credit union. Use and pay your bill in full each month for at least 5 months. Apply for a bigger credit card after the five month period with your bank. You'll get a good amount depending on your income and credit you've bulit over 5 months. Use that card wisely and make sure you ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST 75 PERCENT OF THE AMOUNT YOU GOT IN CREDIT LEFT ON YOUR CARD

MEANING IF THEY GAVE YOU A 3000 CREDIT LIMIT, MAKE SURE YOU AT LEAST ALWAYS HAVE 2250.

Start to open accounts in your own name if you  don't live at home(cable, cell phones, car note) some of these you can still do if you don't live at home. Continue to pay your bills correctly and in a years time, your credit will be ace.

get a secured card, you will need to put a deposit down and get a small credit line.

just make small charges to the card and pay them off immediately. do this for abour 6 or so months and your credit should be rather good and you will easily be able to get a regular credit card with a big credit line.

Don't use your card if you don't already have the money if your trying to build credit for now

I live with my parents and the only bill I have in my name is a gym membership for 10$ a month haha.

get a capital one card and start from there. pay it off in full each month. Don't spend the whole limit
