This is a spin-off of the Ethiopian food thread that I started the other day.  Post some of your favorite dishes (homemade or restaurant) and the type of food that it is.  I LOVE trying new ethnic foods.  Hopefully this thread will give folks some new ideas....

Peruvian Chicken @ El Pollo Rico (Arlington, VA)....if you're going, try it out at off-peak hours.  At lunch time, the line wraps around the building.  It's THAT serious.

Bosnian Burek...dough filled with either meats or cheese.  I've only had the cheese, but it's really good.  If you can find a legit Bosnian restaurant in your city, give it a try.

Guyanese @ Sybils....you'll take a great nap after eating here

Pad thai, from this here place:

True Thai in Minneapolis is a dope restaurant. The inside is riddled with awards from different magazines, and if you ever stop by you'll see why that is. Great Thai food, cheap prices, portions are perfect size (for me, at least...and I can eat a lot. I always leave satisfied, not full or hungry.) It's a great date spot. If you're ever in the area, I'd recommend it for sure.

Next up: Pretty much any curry dish from Gandhi Mahal.

This place isn't quite as well known as True Thai. And for people like me, that's a good thing. It's a pretty small venue, but packed inside is delicious, authentic Indian food. More often than not there is live music (sitar players and everything, and it doesn't have to be a music night...musicians just chill here.) It's a little more pricey than True Thai as well, but the portions are outrageous, the atmosphere is top notch, and possibly best of all -- not a lot of people know about it.

those are my contributions from the Minneapolis perspective. Of course, there might be better restaurants (Fogo de Chao was like heaven on earth before I converted to vegetarianism,) but these are a couple of my personal favorites that a lot of people, at least from my experience, aren't quite hip to that serve great food for affordable prices.

Ate a boatload of these when I was in Croatia a few years back on vacation and god damn do I wish I had one now.  Best bet is to hit up Astoria, Queens to get the real deal in the states.
