One of my friends has like a dozen cases of beer or so in his basement but like half of them are expired. He says it's still alright to drink but it'lltaste different.

I don't want to be drinking no "skunk beer" but I'm also with him on "why spend the $ on new beer right now when you can still get thesame buzz off this %!@$ even if it tastes a little different".

I'm almost 100% positive you can't get sick off it but is the taste unbearable or is it alright? I mean it's not like wine where it gets betterwith age.

... although, I'm usually thekind of person that can just drink whatever without caring about the taste.

Thanks in advance.

I had an expired Corona a couple weeks ago. It was quite possibly the best tasting beer I have had in a while

Besides possible bubble guts.....you'll be good. The expiration is more for freshness (when the flavor is at its peak) rather than when it is inedible.

generally it's not a big deal.

but just out of curiosity - about how old is it, is it in cans or bottles, and what kind of beer?

The biggest issue with storing beer is not the temperature - this is a huge misconception... what you experienced was more than likely thesunlight hitting the beer. Sam Adams uses amber bottles to help protect against this, but if you sit them right in a window you're going to be getting aton of light hitting them and that's what can turn beer.

Don't ever let somebody tell you that letting beer go cold to warm is what skunks it though.. chances are that beer you drank last night was moved that wayseveral times before it got in your mouth.

bottled or canned?
and just wondering how long does it take for beer to expire? (bottle and can)

it'll prolly get more potent, in college i had a few cases of michelobs (old bottle design) I lifted from my dad, who got them from a friend. Anyway, ittasted a little bitter, nothing worse than your typical 1.99 40oz, but i swear we were good and buzzing off 5 or 6

The beer should be fine to drink. If anything, it might taste a little

,but it'll probably be more potent which is

depends on the brand, and what they determine as their freshness period.

Bottles and cans have the same time though generally - and they generally range from about 90 days to 6 months.

A lot of malt stuff will last more like 9 months to a year... and then a lot of stronger micro-brews can have expiration dates that last 3 years and longer..and some barley wines and other strong ales can last pretty much forever, as they are similar to wines and some people store them a certain way that actuallymakes them continue fermenting and getting stronger in alcohol.

Hell, I mad curious too. I never had an expired beer, and I might need to know the results for the future.

Michelob Golden Light, cans. There might be another brand too but most of it was MGL.
I'm not exactly sure about the expiration...somewhere around April of this year though? For some reason that'smy guess maybe he said it at some point and it stuck.

i've had a 2-3 year old coors light in a can. oh my goodness, it was bad.

Just think about it this way; the longer the beer has been sitting/fermenting, the more potent it will be.
