Anybody know where I can get the best price for a external hard drive? Not trying to pay $100 like I've seen on a bunch of sites. I don't need anything excessive like 1 tb or anything.

Also, are all external hard drives capable to work with Macs, or do you need specific ones?

Yeah, I pretty sure they are.
Some aren't compatible right out of the box though.
For some you'll have to reformat the drive to NFS format because some HDDs are pre-formatted in NTFS.

honestly OP i think you should opt for the 1TB might be a little bit extra but its worth it to backup your whole computer and it'll last you awhile
plus your music/vids/movies/pics or whatever will keep piling up
sometimes I feel like 1TB isnt even enough

You may not need it now, but it'll be nice to have for the future.  I would recommend getting an external dock with an internal hard drive.  That way you can just plug in any new hard drive you get once the sizes become larger and cheaper.

I have This and it works great!

How good is the seagate 2tb compared to a western digital elements 2tb drive?
They are both the top 2 HD manufacturers in the world  The quality of both is about as good as you can get.  However, there is still that slight chance of hard drive failure.  There was a study done by Google 4 years ago with over 100K hard drives.  An article of the study is HERE.  Your chance of failure within 2 years is fairly slim especially if you're only using it as an external and not constantly writing to it.
