External Hard Drive Question???????

WD has never done me wrong so far. I have a 1.5TB external and it is not only good but very quiet as well.

Yea I recently bought a 600GB Portable WD Hard Drive. No issues at all. For those that say you had issues, what happened?

losing 1TB of Data would blow my mind
I only buy 500GB Harddrives]
I been looking into SSD's for my primary harddrive, just waiting for the prices to go DOWN

can anyone vouch for iomega? I went with WD home external last time..adapter cord ended up splitting..instead of just getting a replacement adapter I might just get a passport drive..how are the iomega ones?

NO, NO, NO. (coming from a guy whose completely all apple to the core. Time Capsule is over priced for what it is. Especially when you can just plug in a external USB drive into a Extreme.)
Yeah listen to this guy. I'm an apple guy as well and that Time Capsule is a POS. Buy a normal external and partition it to FAT32 and HFS+ so it could work with Mac and that you can use Time Machine. FAT 32 allows you to work with both windows and Mac
cool...thanks guys

Bought a 1TB Iomega harddrive when I bought my PVR. Dude at the store recommended it saying Iomega's been in the biz for a while and know what they're doing.

So far it's been terrific. Literally plug in and use. I believe any harddrive over 1TB needs its own external power source, so be aware that it cannot be powered by the USB cable.

EDIT: Thought my first post wasn't gonna make it thru the YUKU vortex

HD Video recorded from my PVR.

What do you want it to store?

With 1TB?
Whatever the #%+% I want.

In all seriousness, everything that goes on my computer gets a copy on the external. All media, documents, programs, etc. The idea is, if the computer crashes for any reason, I should be able to do a quick reformat, re-install the OS, and return to life as usual using the backup.

Do you guys keep your external hard drives connected to the PC at all times?

To my PC laptop, no. To my iMac, yes. That's primarily because I have client work on here and a font library with over 2500 typefaces that I constantly back up. I would be stupid not to. There's more money in files and data on here than the 27-inch i7 iMac is worth.

I use a Wester Digital My Essentials Passport drive. It can literally fit in your shirt pocket. Its a tad bit larger than the first Ipod and weighs less.
