I didn't mention it at the time, but I was actually laid off from AT&T on May 14th of this year. Damn shame...was there 10 years, received multiple sales and attendance awards, never missed a day of work, and I STILL got the boot. Called my wife when we got the news, and she wasn't even trippin...she's been extremely supportive throughout the entire process. Good thing is that while I was there, I was able to put her in nursing school, so makes now makes almost the same amount I did while I was at AT&T, and she's now back in getting her Master's.

BUT...I start next Monday after 3 months. Thanks to God, my wife, severence pay, and numerous side hustles, things couldn't be better. The new place is only able to pay 1/2 of what I made at AT&T, but hey...it's a start, and I'm fine with that. I wasn't tryin to be on unemployment and I'm glad I dodged the bullet. IMO, the nail in the coffin WAS the pay I made...a lot of employers were scared that I'd get a better offer and jump ship...I never believed that whole "overqualified" thing until this took place; I figured it was no big deal because of my prev.work history and I'd be back to work in no time. WRONG. That, and since I hadn't filled out an app/submitted a resume in 10+ years, I was amazed at how much stuff is online-only...no more face-to-face interaction and really get a feel for who you're hiring and the "first impression"....you just gotta pray you hope you answer their questions the right way online.

Congrats my man, but yea that online gig is the worst. The face to face interaction is a big deal and the people that are qualified and that will actually be worth hiring usually get over looked because of the lack of human interaction. They need to get rid of the online only system all together and do it the old fashioned way. And besides that not everybody is able to have internet access.

We'll see how it goes...I've never been one to "job hop", and this one looks really promising. We're living pretty good....got 1 in daycare, and 1.5 yrs.before both cars are paid off, so that alone will save us $1200 a month. Got a nice amount tucked away for savings, and I received severance pay and all that from AT&T.

I told my mother that a few weeks ago when she asked why is it taking so long to find a job. You can't go anywhere now and hand in your resume. The minute you ask, they tell you to apply online. What happened to interacting with people and them getting a feel of you based off of your personality and the way you carry yourself? Now you just submit your resume online with the thousands of applicants and pray that your profile gets clicked on.

Basically...

I went to a job fair last month, and I was really on my %@@%...fresh fade, crisp shirt and tie, portfolio w/resumes and references, etc....and that place was PACKED with bums; dingy white tees and shoes leanin to the left, BUT EVERYBODY I went to...even the biggest company names, all told me to "check out out website"....what was the point of having a job fair then?! I could've did this on careerbuilder! That was pretty disheartening...I expected SO much more than to get a bunch of URL's and pamphlets
