I kno how u fail my dude... i just messed up my spring semester in freshman year cuz of a bunch of bs

But i'm majorin in computer science... has alot of good job opportunities tho

I'm *++@%*% up my first semester of college badly, I'm failing two classes (Bio and Chem) and I have no idea what I want to major in. I waspre-pharmacy coming in but I realized it wasn't for me..it's hard to stay motivated to go to class, do my work, and study hard when I don't knowwhat I'm doing it for. I wish I had the opportunity to just restart everything from high school graduation and on. Partying and everything is straight butwhen your grades suck it just ruins everything else. For example, I can't even sleep right at night, which is why I'm posting this. I honestly feellike just dropping out and going to barber school or doing something I like but then there's always the realistic side of my brain telling me that I needto make good money to survive and provide for a family in the future. I'm sure other people here have gone through this..what are some majors besides thepre-med majors, engineering, and business that have good job opportunities?

Yeah I feel you, you just got to get use to the pace and you have to keep reminding yourself how much of a waste of money and time it would be if you failed. And plus academic probation. But relax, everyone has the same thoughts as you, computer jobs are a pretty safe bet btw.

You should not put pressure on yourself to know exactly what you will do for the rest of your academic and working life. People who are Middle Aged make careerchanges, many people in their late 20's or their 30's get advanced degrees and many undergraduates take some time to find a good major.

Look at it this way, you should not even really seriously consider your major until you have at least taken two semesters of various intro courses. Introcourses are far fro ma perfect gauge of how upper division or graduate class are, let alone to show you how a career in a field related to that major will be.However, a sophomore with a year of actual college classes is some what better able to commit to a major than a high school senior.

Also, most people change their major seeing as how almost everyone starts as a poli sci major who wants to change the world, a liberal arts major whose parentsdid not let them come to school as "undeclared" and "pre-med" yet so few stick with that, either by choice or in the case the "futuredoctors" aka naive House fans by way of the red pens wielded by their intro to bi chem TA. BTW I was that idealistic poli sci student when I wasfreshman and Economics was a Dark Side for that misguided socialist.

Don't sweat it, focus on the classes right in front of you which are part of your general education so you need to pass them regardless of major. So focusand put in some work and let your the best major for you emerge.

Let me tell you this from experience...it gets better, and it gets harder. Get all your university requirements out of the way, that's what the first twoyears of school are generally for. Most college programs require freshmen and sophomores to take a variety of classes and it gets the wheels turning, helpingstudents figure out what they're strong in and what they enjoy. Let me give you some tips (I'm a 5th year senior BTW)

1. You won't like everything you do, but you HAVE to get some things done. Make it a point to stay on campus if you feel like you'll skip. Failing arequired course will come back to bite you in the +%$.

2. Don't major in something because of the job opportunities or money if you don't enjoy it. Intro level classes might not be bad, but once you getmore in depth it gets worse, and imagine doing something you HATE for the rest of your life.

3. Talk to an adviser, tell them your interests and hobbies and they'll be able to run some career paths by you and class options.

4. Go to your professors office hours if they have them, if they see you're making an effort they'll be much more willing to help you pass their class.

5. Have fun, but make it a point to get stuff done. Nothing wrong with going out, just not 5 nights a week.

Those are the things I wish I would have known. I finished fall semester freshman year with a 1.9 but I'm up to a 2.9

I was majoring in english and history with a concentration in secondary ed.Now I'm an entrepreneurship major with a double minor in sales and marketing. I like people, I like to help people, I like to make money and I like tocontrol how much I make

Also, if you need cliffnotes...college isn't for you

I lot of people fail/do horrible in their first semesters of bio/chem.

Why they have freshmen take them at the same time, I have no clue.

I swear it seems like everyone these days wants to be a doctor, pharmacist, or lawyer. When in reality only a special group of hard working individuals canmake it to these top programs. Maybe you should take a minute to find out what you are good in then make a move. Dont just follow a common path.

calm down OP. its your first semester and many many people F up at first. I did as well, but I bounced back really well and got my GPA way over 3.0. Calm down, nothing is over, pick yourself up and hit the courses harder. But be smart from now on, dont make the same mistakes. The first thing that you did wrong wastaking Chem and Bio right off the bat. Those two classes are very difficult, as you already know yourself, and you were caught off guard.

It's your first semester. You should just take some basic courses and get a feel for the school. I mean, take your math, history, etc--stuff that appliestoward any degree plan. Give yourself time to adjust and all that. I bombed Physics for science majors, but I just went on with my business courses and changedmy mind on being a doctor, and things have been smooth ever since. All A's and B's since that one bad grade.

Agreed. At this rate I'm not even gonna have 12 credits by the end of the semester.

Unappreciated, I took a break over a year ago to get my head straight.
College was too much for a 17 year old boy with terrible social skills.

first year seems to be rough for a lot of ppl cuz of the adjustment to being so responsible for yourself.

if i could go back now, my gpa would look a hell of a lot better
