I don't know of any 4th of July festivities, I'm sure some other NT'er can help you out with that.

You can go to LA Live which is walking distance from your hotel. Plenty of restaurants, ESPN Zone, Lucky Strike Bowling Alley, Conga Room, Theater, etc.

If you like sushi you should go to Wokcano, there's a really nice Australian girl who hooks me up with free drinks

There's also plenty of bars and lounges not too far from where you're staying:

Wokcano
Seven Grand
Mas Malo
Dublins
Golden Gopher

I work in the area so let me know if you have any questions.

Enjoy my city

OP - if you have an international license it is highly recommended that you rent a car. Public transportation in LA is pretty terrible.

Beverly Hills is give or take 15 minutes from DTLA (no traffic). With traffic it can get crazy.

I am not familiar with the metro at all, but I believe there is a line that can take you from DTLA to Hollywood.

1st time in LA, I guess you have to go to Hollywood, but TBH there really isn't much to see there. Assuming you have easy access to transportation, your time might be better spent heading out to the beach areas like Santa Monica or Malibu.

Yea transportation sucks but you can take the Metro Red Line from 7th Station to Hollywood/Vine and walk up/down Hollywood Blvd.

I was gonna suggest this.
Check out the Nike Vault at Staples Center.... You can also hit up Nike Santa Monica, and while you're at it, head to the Santa Monica pier or Venice Beach for the 4th of July fireworks.

I still will highly recommend getting a cheap rental car.

About 25-30 minutes away with no traffic, at the Citadel in Orange County.  Just be cautious of that late afternoon traffic on the 5 freeway.
Are you thinking of hitting up Flight Club L.A.??   There's a lot to do, outside of DTLA.

might re-book our hotel closer to West Hollywood/Beverly hills. As i hear the traffic is crazy in LA and want to avoid driving in it.

Avoiding driving may be tough as our public transportation isn't the best, but adequate.
Best of luck
