For the first date.

Bowling. Something competitive. Seems to work for me. I guess it shows you somewhat care and want to be there.

EDIT: Then go for a bite. Something light.

Both... Movies alone aint a good idea, you cant have a conversation in a movie theater...First dates are all about "the conversation"

Don't go to the movies because you'll just waste the two-three hours sitting there and not interacting at all, also, maybe one of you might not even like the movie, so it'll just be a boring first date. Go bowling like the poster above said where you guys can have fun and actually communicate. If she doesn't like bowling, then go ice skating or skiing...

Dinner, but dont make it a chain restaurant. Do something more personal, alot of local places allow that. then pick a movie that fits the night, dont watch an action movie. sometimes you might have to watch a chick flick to get in

why would you go to the movies on  a FIRST date? IMO first date you should be talking and getting to know each other

Dinner & a Walk

... I had that as a first date and it was great. It gives you more time to talk and get to know each other better

If you know she really likes you.  Taking women to fancy dinners on first dates is setting yourself up to fail.

A movie is the worst place for a first date.

A nice dinner, then a stroll afterwards, and a stop at a coffee shop/dessert spot is all you need. Keep the date at 2 hours maximum; 1 hour dinner, 15 min walk around - the rest enjoying a beverage/dessert while getting to know her more.

Choice of restaurant: don't go all out and try to impress her with a super-nice, super-expensive restaurant. Instead, pick a nice place where you KNOW the menu.
