If you’ve been dealing with technical issues like sluggish loading times or forced page reloads, we encourage you to give our new Performance Mode a try.

Performance Mode is a new theme option that aims to reduce load times and memory consumption. It works by keeping common page elements in memory while you browse and rendering embedded social media content as clickable previews.

Instead of loading sometimes dozens of embedded social media posts and videos as soon as you attempt to view a page, embedded content will initially appear as a preview like this one:

Once clicked or tapped, it will expand as normal:

Our thread image gallery feature has also been rewritten and is now faster, lighter weight, and more touch friendly. When viewing individual images, you can return to thread view with a simple swipe up rather than clicking the small ‘x’ to close.

To enable Performance Mode, simply scroll down to the bottom of the page and select it from the list of available themes:

You can disable the feature at any time by selecting one of our other two themes: OG or Cool Grey.

Performance Mode is still under development, so please let us know if you encounter any issues.

If you come across anyone in the forums complaining about forced page reloads on mobile or similar issues, please direct them to this thread to help spread the word.

Thanks for your continued support of the NikeTalk community, independent websites, and genuine human interaction.

One small detail......it shows posts from people you've blocked. It even says you've blocked them, but reveals the posts anyways.

Otherwise, it's way better than what the norm had been. 👍

Been working well for me so far

NT on my PC was slowing everything to a crawl, task manager said it was taking up like 90% of resources :lol so far so good on the new mode

no more random refreshes on iphone safari so far too 👍
I’m glad to hear that it’s made a positive difference for you.

For years, we’ve gotten complaints from people acting as if the forced page reloads they encountered while browsing NikeTalk, which many assumed were a result of the ads we were running. While ads are among the many possible sources of memory leaks, we’ve tested multiple providers over the years and the biggest constants here were low memory/mobile devices, long average session times (especially for users composing lengthy posts), and pages with lots of embedded social media posts.

Social media providers have little incentive to improve the performance efficiency of embedded content. Their goal is to drive engagement for their own platforms and monopolize the Internet. No help is coming from them.

Waiting for average device RAM to increase is likewise a dead end thanks to “AI”-driven hardware scarcity.

The forum software platform we use has entered an all-too familiar state of development stagnation.

The founding principle of NikeTalk is “better to light a candle than curse the darkness,” so here we are.

While I’m reluctant to make the static social media previews a global default, given the outcry when a literal dot briefly changed colors after a recent security update, perhaps that will change as more people try it for themselves via Performance Mode.

If all goes well, though, the rest of the improvements will roll out to everyone by the end of the week.

I appreciate everyone’s testing and feedback.

Thanks for letting us know. Sadly, I’m unable to block/ignore users myself as that would limit my moderation ability.

A fix has already been applied and should resolve this issue.

One thing I wish could be fixed is when I attempt to type out a reply, a pop-up ad always appears overtop of the reply box. And sometimes it's multiple pop-ups. It's really annoying that happens as you have to tap the exact place to close it or it opens the ad before you can type your reply. Wish their was a fix for this.

This is not a common or desired experience. Post a screen shot and we'll look into it.

FWIW I’ve had a bunch of random refreshes on mobile when making posts that were a few lines or embeds in progress and it was annoying AF :lol
