I've been doing this for as far back as I can remember.
I do have an unlimited but when my friends come from LI I let them use it and just jump.
Of course I look around for transit cops and suspicious plain clothes dudes but I usually don't think of it as a big deal.
I'm 6' 2'' so I just hold on to the turnstile and jump/run to the end of the platform before anyone sees anything happen..

So my question is has anyone ever been caught? Circumstances?
I've never heard/seen anyone deal with that $100 fare evasion fee but if I had to it'd be nothing compared to the $$ I've saved over the years

Alot of times you'll get a ticket.

100$ vs 2.25 fare for the subway. Not worth it

I barely use NYC subway. Only days I use it is when there's school and I have a metrocard for that.
I use the LIRR more often

I was caught for doubling up at a turnstile.... $75 ticket for me and my girl.

How'd you get caught? Did you miss a cop/was he hidden?
I've doubled up before also (I go in at the same time as whoever I'm with)
It seems flawless if you do it quick when theres no one at the booth/spectators and if you run lol

On a Sunday night on 42nd when I was waiting for my boy I saw someone getting ticketed for jumping the turnstyle, doubling, or sneaking through the emergency door when it was openned every 2 minutes. It was only a few months ago

I did it a few times. But now that I'm over 18 I'm not taking that risk anymore.

Nowadays you can actually get arrested for hopping... depends on the police officer.. Only time I did it, I climbed over the top where there was an open section above the black gate

this is somehow less suspicious?

When I was down there, everybody would rush through the emergency door when someone opened it from the other side. Nobody seemed to care

I'm guessing the station was dead empty/no attendants
I mean theres obv gonna be wayy more people jumping in residential bk/qns/bx areas as opposed to anywhere in manhattan
I wouldn't dare jump at canal street/union square/anywhere in midtown cops be popping out of nowhere and ishh

depends what stations you are in. do it in a commercial stop and you will get sniped. I do it occasionally, never got caught but I been with people who got caught.

Trust me, it aint worth it. It is probably the most humiliating moment of your life when that cop is writing you a ticket in front of everyone because you are too cheap to pay 2.25

and yes you can get arrested for hopping especially if you give the cops an attitude.

...came back acting like he did a bid.
I just know when I did do it, that those train doors aint close on me on the other side

I've got caught once in HS paid it off, another time when I went through the door, the cop let is slide. Used a orange jhs metrocard got snatch with the quickness paid mta atleast 300 cause of late fees. Now I'm using a green HS card but I used that on the low when money is tight and only use it in less populated areas of certain stations. DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO SON BUT JUMPING IS DUMB IF YOU AINT BOOKING IT AFTER U DO IT.

i've only done it once. i was in the bronx and these 3 dudes tried to rob me on the stairs, i pushed the dude in front of me out the way and jumped down 10 or so stairs. then ran, jumped the turnstile flew down the stairs and hopped in the train that was pulling up

at least i didn't get robbed

in boston its not easy to hop, its kinda high, i dont know about doubling though, its 1.75 to use the subway here. Hardly any cops at the subways here, just MBTA workers once in a while, so if you can hop it you should be good.

I got caught a couple years ago coming out the Yankee game. $100 fine
