Glorifying Gangs in Music Videos, Is this going to far?

I hear what people say but if you letting a video decide what you doing in life as far as gangs/ other negative things they already lost. I don't think having a bunch of "nice videos" going to have dudes wanting to go the other way either though. Its usually what dudes are surrounded by.

i think it comes down to parenting not the videos. and there are horrible parents out there. just the other day two women left 3 toddlers in the car downtown cincinnati for 5 hours to get their hair done! smh. i grew around all types %!%* but i had a strong single mom to keep my head tight. don't blame the rappers for giving you what you want.

Our culture always puts a spotlight on the negatives, leading the youth to believe that these are positives instead. It starts with the parents, and continues with our entertainment. It's a cycle that may never end because our culture refuses to take responsibility for anything.

You can say it's only entertainment, but our youth are pretty dumb. I also don't see the governor of California flashing gang signs in real life while telling people to keep it real.

"I never thought it was cool or went about doing it. It takes away from the legitimacy of whatever you claim you represent. Gimmicks are for pop stars. Real artists can merge who they are and what they do without having to 'glorify' anything.", said Young Rilla..

I was thinking about your response and now figured out where I see a difference.  When you see Arnold shoot people in a movie, it's like cool but you not gonna just run out and shoot somebody.  However, when people see Lil Wayne and Flocka making it seem cool to be a Blood, it can be like a gateway into that lifestyle.  Plus, the youth relate more with rappers from the hood than these Hollywood actors.

First it can start with them just thinking it's cool to dress in red and be a Blood(they not really bout that life), then later on as they get immersed in that lifestyle, they start to be "about that life" and ready to kill.

It's one thing to glorify violence, because most people take it for what it is, which is entertainment. "It Was Written" is not going to persuade a kid into trying to be a coke kingpin.

But it's another thing to glorify gangs, which for certain individuals, is something they see every day in real life. I'm not saying a kid is going to join a gang just because he saw rapper flagging. But that kind of stuff affects your subconcious, and when you grow up watching "celebrities" repping that just further legitimizes the gang in the back of your head.

There would be a gang problem regardless, but this ain't helping the situation.
