Anyone on here on one or have done it at one point in time? Doctor recommended it today and when doing some research on what gluten free actually means, it virtually eliminates most of the stuff I'd eat. For those who have done this, how did you go about it? Plan on beginning this following Thanksgiving. Want to get one last meal in before I have to stop eating the stuff that falls in that category.

I keep pretty much gluten free. I'm not super strict if there's something delicious that violates, but in my day-to-day food prep, I avoid gluten. I'm pretty sensitive to it adn feel like **** when I consume it - get all bloated, sometimes get some diarrhea, can get a headache also. Wouldn't say I have a full-blown allergy or anything.

It's not too hard to do if you have any cooking skills whatsoever.
Meat and veggies, with some brown rice and potatoes to supplement it.
There's plenty of paleo diet resources out there. Lemme know if you have specific questions or want me to point you in the direction of some of these resources.

Did you get actual blood work done to test and see if you have an intolerance, or did the doctor just recommend it because you have a few symptoms?

Haven't had any blood work, but he's put a few patients of his on it who share the same condition and he's seen vast improvements in all of them.

Since I love to drink this would be bad but I know my old boss's whole family has it and its a tough diet to follow I do know that you can eat at outback a lot cuz they cater to the diet

its gon be hard. good luck

food with gluten tastes so much better :lol

^ treat food as a source of sustenance rather than a source of pleasure and you'll be fine. There are much more fulfilling things than a meal that tastes good but is bad for you.

Just had gluten free pasta last night and I enjoyed it best part is I didn't notice the difference. Didn't get the 'crash' you usually get from eating pasta don't know if I'll go completely gluten free but I'm definitely checking for it when possible.

gluten is a protein in wheat/grain products. some people react differently when they eat it (gluten intolerance/celiac disease)

theres nothing wrong with gluten if you are not effected by it so i would only go on the diet if a physician advises me to

There's no health benefit to consuming it though. There are much better carb sources out there regardless.

yeah but that doesnt mean you have to go out of your way to take it out of your diet

Going to have to look into this.

Started the diet yesterday and while I can enjoy my dinners as I normally would, it's the breakfast portion of the day that's particularly difficult because so many products contain wheat flour. I'm going to shop for gluten free cereals this week.

Anyone had a good gluten free beer?

EDIT: Boar's Head being gluten-free is a huge relief.

No. Doctor just wanted me to try it. My schedule is so chaotic at times that it made it difficult to actually go through with it until I sat down and said I need to try this.

Pretty much deaded fast food. You can eat Five Guys because they'll make the burger without a bun if that's your thing.

Check for Nature's Path cereals. Maple Sunrise and Coconut-Chia Granola are really good... damn near junk food though.

Potato bread is a good substitute for those who want to make sandwiches and what not.

In the middle of week two and this isn't easy at all especially at lunch. Eating a bowl of white rice from the Chinese restaurant, because there's nothing around my office that caters to this diet.

I've been gluten free for 14 months now and it's transformed my life. I feel great, have tons of energy and I suppose this is what your Intestines are supposed to feel like - had reasonable IBS for the previous 20 years in hindsight.

You have to be careful not to just replace bread, pasta etc with GF alternatives - those are just for occasional eating. I mostly eat rice and potatoes instead - and everyone knows that the bread is only there to keep your hands clean, not to provide nutrition.

Lunch is the main problem - there's not much round my office so I often just end up eating crap. Need to work on that.

Were you diagnosed with Celiac disease? Otherwise, why would your doctor recommend it?

What do you do for breakfast? I really haven't been eating breakfast either because it's hard to find GF alternatives. I've been eating fruit and GF rice cakes for snacks.

No. Have a condition that may or may not be triggered by gluten. His other patients have eliminated it from their diets and have seen improvements.

It varies, sometimes eggs and rice, sometimes rice cereal, sometimes fruit and toast with PB.

This morning it was chocolate milk and a Snickers because I was on the run!
