do i have to keep it installed after i use it?

First step:

check your internet browser add-ons.

in firefox you go to Tools > Add ons:
-look to see if you installed a third party add-on by mistake.

next go to your computers control panel -> uninstall program:
-search to see if you have any third party application that you accidentally installed. (if you need help, list the names of programs listed you don't recognize)
-uninstall any program that seems suspect.

third run the anti-virus people been recommending.

You might also want to run a program called Combofix. That in conjunction w/ Malwarebytes works miracles. If that doesn't work, run something called TDSS Killer, then run Combofix, then Malwarebytes. I hate the fake virus scan/redirect viruses. Really annoying and hard to get rid of.
