Gray or Grey?

Since I was young, ive always told myself gray is the correct spelling. Nowadays I find myself spelling it grey for some reason.

I know in Canada, they spell certain English words differently. Like we write check and they write cheque

maybe it applies to this word as well?

Grey became the established British spelling in the 20th century, pace Dr. Johnson and others,[111] and it is but a minor variant in American English, according to dictionaries. Canadians tend to prefer grey. The non-cognate greyhound was never grayhound. Both Grey and Gray are found in proper nameseverywhere in the English-speaking world. -wiki
