hard drive problem, help!

ok so my HP laptop is having a bunch of problems, one of them being that it wont turn on. HP has agreed to fix all of the problems with the computer for free,the only catch is that all of the data on my hard drive will be erased. There is no problems with the hard drive itself, but the computer will not turn on so Ihave no idea how to get the information from the laptop hard drive onto my external HD.

the guy from HP suggested that I take it to bestbuy/costco/walmart and they could do an extraction for me, but i have to pay for this. does anyone know howmuch this will cost me? is there an alternative?

If you have another computer in the house, try using one of these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153066R. You can justdrop the hard drive in and copy all of the data over. It'll work great in the future too for normal internal hard drives that you want to use as backupslater on. Plus... it'll be a lot cheaper than Best Buy will charge you for the same thing.

Yeah, if you are only a little tech savvy, you might want to pay somebody to do this for you.

I would crack open the laptop, grab the hard drive, hook it up to another PC via an open SATA or IDE port and grab everything off of there.
