So I purchased a Samsung 40 in A650 about 11 months ago.. for quite awhile the 120HZ AMP hasn't seemed to be working correctly. I work at bestbuy soI'm pretty familiar with how it is supposed to look.... finally I decided to have Samsung come out for service.

Well they had their service rep come out today, guy said he saw nothing wrong, but either way he can't really do anything to fix it. Had my buddy come overto check it out, who also works in the Home Theater Department and said that there is definately something wrong and agreed with me, doesn't look how it issupposed to. I have roughly 30 days left on my manufacturers warranty... what can I do? I obviously spent the extra money on the touch of color for the 120HZAMP... and it isn't working right.

All help appreciated!

I'm gonna be pissed if I can't get this fixed, shoulda bought the extended through bby

He said to call samsung tomorrow and they will most likely send another service rep out.. any chance I can get them to just replace the set? I can't be theonly one to have this issue.

You didnt get BTP man?
smh.gif

Maybe GS can send it to the service center and put notes on it sayin exactly what its doing and make recommendations on what should be done?

But i think you need to INSIST that there is something wrong with the set to samsung.

good luck

What exactly is it not doing.?

And if u still have 30 days left then wats the problem?

how do you know it doenst work, is it all pixelated?? are you watching nascar and the cars and speeding by and the screen get all pixel up??

Well as said I work at bestbuy... I see TV's all day long... we just put out a friggen Insignia with 120 HZ and it looks better than my Samsung TOC

And Fraj... I'm cheap

I didn't think I'd need BTP on such a good set. Boy am I kicking myself for that.

I thought about what if I threatened Samsung saying I'd never sell another Samsung TV again

Thats the last time I don't buy BTP...

Yeah I mean - sounds like your best bet is to contact the manufacturer directly, try to get to somebody who really has some power to help you on the phone...tell them you got a defective set.

I work in ops at best buy, talk to your manager and see if they'll let you do an excahnge under manufacture warranty.

You think theres any chance they could let me do that?

It sucks because unless you are familiar with how the 120 HZ AMP looks, most people think there's nothing wrong with it.. but everyone who I work with whohas seen my TV agrees, there's definitely something wrong.

Basically the service guy said today that he didn't notice anything, but even if he changed the board on it he didn't think it would fix it so dudedidn't even attempt it

Said that he's had other customers who he did that for, and they still said something was wrong with it.

It sucks cause if I can't get it taken care of, I paid easily 500 more for a feature that went out a month after I had my TV... if that.

And to exchange it under manufacturer's warranty.... don't you have to exchange it for the same thing... I know we haven't carried this TV for afew months now

usually it is exchange for the same item, but get with a cool manager explain the situation and they'll probably let you do an exchange for same price, then promise you'll buy the BTP and say you learned your lesson lol.

I've got the 52" TOC 1080p 120hz hanging in my living room and that is the best goddamn TV I've ever seen in my life. You would know if itwasn't looking right, so I trust you. You can't return it?

I have a 46" Sony 1080p 120hz in the bedroom and it oesn't even compare to the Samsung. Its good, but that Samsung is just insane.

I bought it last August

And exactly what you said HovKid... its so obvious it isn't working right.

Gotta call Samsung tomorrow and see what they can do... otherwise I might call 1-888-Bestbuy

sony is just as equal or BETTER than samsungs

whats BTP?

Best Buy's Protection Plan - Black Tie Protection they call it now

The reason I prefer the Samsung's... IMO the Panel gives it much better color than the Sony's

Cinco you work at BBY right? If I remember you were in management.. I just remember a post about PI about a year back.

Anyways wondering if you've ever seen any other Samsungs with that problem

I asked someone in HT about it today, and he has the this years 650.. basically said he is having the same problem... he's in the same boat as me..didn't get the BTP

Welp.. update.. guy called me back today from service center..

Came over and switched out the board, thats what Samsung told him to do... and I don't think it changed anything
eyes.gif

The picture is still phenomenal... just doesn't seem to have that "3d" effect where the images jump off the screen as the TV's at work do..

your tv is a year older than the ones at your work could that b it? anyway check avsforum.com

And you waited 9-10 months to call samsung???

120hz breaking is a bad thing?

Should've got a plasma if you were worried about motion blur.

you still haven't described what exactly the issue was. have you done any firmware updates to the tv? that might solve your issue. either way go toavsforum they can help ya

Yes I have done a firmware update... I looked at AVS forums... people explained it as the auto motion plus being "Stuck"

It fixed it at first and then went back to before.

Its not that I waited so long. I honestly thought I had just gotten used to the 120 hz effect and didn't notice it anymore. Then around January I checkedout the same TV at work and the motion was MUCH different than my set. Looked it up online.. did the firmware update, took care of it for a few weeks, than itwasn't really doing it anymore.

For anyone who has ever seen a 120hz set... you know how it looks. Its not just that it eliminates motion blur... it has a completely different effect from anyplasma. Literally the foreground sticks out from the background almost like a 3d effect.

Another suggestion is to check this thread off of AVS... http://www.avsforum.com/a...540&highlight=40a650
