Cable broadcasts are not in 1080p. They broadcast in 720p or 1080i...Blu-Ray movies are the only thing you'll get in 1080p

thanks, so why does my cable box even offer the option of setting the channels to 1080p if no channels can support it yet?

Depending on your provider, some of their OnDemand content can be 1080p. As far as setting the channels though, I really don't know I guess I'd have to see the box. It'll be a long time before channels have the capability to broadcast in 1080p and the cable providers have the bandwidth to support it.

really? I can't really tell from comparing our two other LCD TVs (40" with 1080i and 32" 1080p, respectively). Anyway, I only bought a 32" LED TV, so I guess it's not really that much of an issue for me.

no cable provider in the country outputs in 1080p....you will only get 1080i....Blu Ray is the only format right now that will output at 1080p...cable or sat is still far from adapting it...most of it actually displays in 720p still

Well of course you wont see the difference they are all the same resolution. The big difference is the quality of the picture (color depth, contrast, backlight bleeding, etc..).
