Can't really campaign on something that by in-large hasn't taken effect yet. Mistake 1 of the Democrats. But also to fundamentally change a system running on greed, deception and bribery it takes more than a day to institute the proper fixes to the system..
The answer to that would be to go to the opposite direction of the way they went, and instead of moving the legislation to the right which they did and you cannot even say they didn't (Single Payer to Public Option to Limited Public Option to end up with What Republicans Proposed in 1994).. They should have gone to the left.. Many Progressives said from the beginning if you make a legislation for health care and do not create a government insurance to compete against private insurance premiums will go up.. Not because they need to, not because the legislation hampers the company causing issues, it is because the insurance company can use the legislation as a disguise for raising prices on their own doing. And we all know damn well that is the only reason they are raising premiums.
And even if the insurance companies are raising it based on the legislation what the hell for... For a lift on lifetime caps (for most people you never reach that cap).. For allowing people to stay on their parents health care insurance until 26? That makes no sense, it guarantees you will receive your money... It can't be mandating 30 million to get insurance because that is a pool of 30 million more customers the insurance companies can make bank on. So it must be rescission and eliminating pre-existing conditions. If it is the last of all the "possible reasons" to raise the premiums it is further indication that we should have just done a wide scale actual "government takeover" (as the Doomsday Conservatives call it) of the insurance industry.. If trying to keep our citizens from being defrauded by the insurance company causes a raise in premiums by potentially 9% well then maybe we shouldn't have for profit industry in something so important as insuring people's health..
Normally the best way to fix things is do exactly the opposite of conventional wisdom in D.C. tells you to do.. And conventional wisdom kept telling the Dems to compromise.. You need to compromise.. And never one to waste a time to waste an opportunity the democrats compromised.. If they created a more progressive piece of legislation I'd put everything I own, they would not only run on it until the cows come home (weird reference by me) they would limit Republican gains to a minimum.
