Help with clearing your hard drive

Hey NT, I was recently given an old laptop from a family friend. It's not the best but it's nice to have. Anyways, it has 60GB but 58 is already filled up. Does any NTer know how to completely reboot it/wipe it/clear it (whatever the terminology is) and free up all the space? Preferably to its factory setting or without any of the HP crap if possible.

Or if I can run a hackintosh

If theres no systwm restore in the control panel. Then try hitting F8 or f10 when booting up the cumputer. Shouldbring up a menu tuat allows you to run a reset

That works but the files are still there. I'm trying to loose all the files since they're useless to me and start brand new.

Yes i have a life. is 3pm though. i got nothing else to do my friends are at work

you need the restore disk that came with the laptop or a copy of windows to reinstall the OS & delete the files

download dban from www.dban.org and burn the cd, boot to it, then do a dod 7x wipe to make sure everything is gone and nothing can be recovered. Only thing is,then you need to have a Windows disc to reinstall the OS plus the drivers. If it's XP or Vista or 7 on the COA sticker, download that first and make sure it's the right one (32 bit, 64 bit, Professional, Business, Home, etc.)
