can someone help me with something?

I want a new laptop. my current laptop is an older lenovo thinkpad. the thing i love about the thinkpad is that there is a 3rd mouse button which allows me to "open in new tab" when using internet browsers. if i click on a link with that 3rd button, it opens the link in a new tab in the background. while this only saves me two seconds, i probably use this a hundred times a day.

is this a simple function that i can setup using any laptop? or does the laptop have to have a third mouse button? If so, do any other laptops offer a third mouse button that would offer the same "open in new tab" function?

thanks.

Thinkpad? are you talking about the one with the red button/mouse in the middle of the keyboard?

I just right click URL's and open them in a new tab that way.

And its hard to make a suggestion without knowing what you plan to use your laptop for.

Yeah I know I can right-click and open in a new tab. I used to do that before I discovered that the middle mouse button does it for me.

The laptop is for normal use, not for gaming.

Yeah, like this:

You can probably customize taps or gestures as a middle click. Touchpads suck though, I rarely use them.

Hold down control on the keyboard when you click a link

Yep hold ctrl or command when you click on a link and it opens in a new tab. I think you just have to make sure your browser is configured to open in a new tab vs in a new window.

Also if you hook up a mouse to your laptop you can just click the center scroll wheel on a link to open links in a new tab.

Bruh thinkpads are best computers as far as functionality and productivity..I've been a Mac owner for years (still am) but no computer comes even remotely close to my thinkpad..have the 2016 x1 Carbon btw..u need a new one..u can get a brand new one around $600 and up..mine was double that..but it sounds like to me u really like thinkpads so it's a no-brainer

Honesty idk too much about think pad. But what do know That the red button is meant to function as a mouse courser. you put your finger on it and gently move the mouse courser on the screen.

I think you can just hit Ctrl+t or tab to open up a new web page on Windows computer.

Thinkpads are legit business machines they last just as long MacBooks.

Will cop one for work or if I get one from work.

My brother got a thinkpad from work and loves it. I need a new laptop and might get one since I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a mac again.
