Very informative article from the Washingtonian. I encourage all those who think weed is for the "lazy" and "ignorant" to give it a read. Bolded the parts I found interesting. I can only imagine how much dough "Sara" is clocking
High Society: Washington’s Love Affair With Marijuana
Medical marijuana is set to arrive in DC this summer. But the drug is already a much bigger part of upper-middle-class life here than you might think.

At 8 o’clock on achilly autumn weeknight, Sara makes her way across DC’s Mount Pleasant neighborhoodto deliver a cutely wrapped package to the home of a high-powered attorney.

Despite the drugs in her car, she doesn’t look nervous, even when she makes anillegal left turn a few blocks after she passes a police van. “Can I do this?

If you are in college this is more than likely common knowledge. Everyone smokes the biggest 2 reasons why people dont smoke is because its illegal and they get tested for it at work. Weed isnt just for your local hoodlums and drug addicts its a recreation drug shared by many the media/government have done a good job by changing peoples perceptions of it over the years but if you are educated on the facts you know why.

That's sort of the problem tho. The perception.
There are a ton of people sitting in jail who "look like me" because of it. Yet...the "upper echelon of society", most of whom happen to not "look like me" use it quite leisurely because there isn't a task force set up to pull over 40 year old white soccer moms driving X5's.

I really posted this article because of some of the dumb $@# comments I see on this board from people who are so anti-weed. If you don't smoke...cool...but don't try to preach that !%+%!+$+ propaganda they taught us in school about why "weed" is so bad for you. Some idiot had the nerve in a recent thread to say "look at WSHH" for a reason as to why weed should be illegal.

I've never been high in my life, marijuana does smell good but I just don't like smoke.

Same thing I thought while reading this.

Great article...touched on a lot of good points.

I like the list of qualifiable conditions you need to have to become a medical cannabis user. I feel that it becomes a detriment to the pro-mj movement that users that are busted without having any sort of serious ailment just raise the statistics to justify the need of prisons, cops, and a whole slew of reasons to keep giving the police dept's and prisons more funding.

I feel that there are other conditions that need to be up there but it's a pretty good list for getting the ball moving.

First it needs to be decriminalized before we even get to legalization. There are too many special interest groups that benefit from keeping MJ illegal. Decriminalization would cut the amount of people in jail for petty possessions substantially. It would still probably mean you can't smoke out in public areas which it should be like that. The article touched on how pot smoking can affect kids/children. There needs to be some discretion exercised when using any inebriating substance, booze, cigs, pot...but that would be up to parents and better left up to the judicial system. I still believe you shouldn't do these things in front of kids and it should be punishable if your caught doing so.

Girls are def. hustling in D.C. much props to them. "Stoner's" give people who use pot a bad name...they attribute the lazy, unmotivated aspect of using pot. They'll vibe out to reggae songs that say "don't abuse it" and still abuse the $!@+ out of it like it's just a catchy saying...smgdh.

Making cannabutter is a grueling process in itself so these ladies know what their doing. That oil will work miracles though.

It's not even surprising that higher ups in D.C. would be using this stuff yet vote against it...buncha hypocrits. It's only okay if they're doing it but if a minority does it's hell and murder.

When I was a teenager I used to have the same ignorant perception of ALL smokers. Then when I saw what it did for me...I quickly changed my tune. I am RIDICULOUSLY productive when I'm high. Specifically from a creative standpoint.

There is more smoke in DC closetsthan there is sex.

That was a good read though. It's a shame that those high profile people won't be honest and support it, though. For all of those people who actually agreed to make comments in the articles, there's probably 3 more who were too afraid to. Pot is used everywhere, by people from every background and in every socioeconomic class.

But at least this means it's one step closer if these high profiles are admitting to it.

YEP!

Real life WEEDS but yea I agree the decriminalization of marijuana needs to happen pronto....save prison for people who commit serious crimes

It's impossible to stay happy when you're grinding through a tough week of studying and doing homework, and that is why I choose to smoke weed with my friends who are dedicated people.
I think there is an overwhelming support by most Americans to legalize recreational marijuana. There is no point to not legalize when you have upper echelon figures eating and smoking in secrecy. It's almost satirical.

I have "colleagues" in one of my organizations at school that choose not to socialize with me because they know I smoke weed and think I can't associate with them. Making marijuana illegal creates a false hysteria that is pathetic and should be stopped in the very near future.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama trying to legalize recreational marijuana if he is re-elected, in my opinion.

Edit: I definitely agree with Grimlock on the point that no one should smoke in front of kids in public or obtain it for them. Decriminalizing it is a mandatory first step.

Vape all day everyday!

Like the police are really going to start setting up task forces in those areas

Ain't %!@! secret about that. Just like anyone who grew up here knows how those affluent Georgetown crowds have those "treat your nose" gatherings.

This article contains a lot of misinformation upon skimming through it.
Marijuana smoke has 70 percent more carcinogens than tobacco smoke? oh

Can someone explain this "Safety Margin" business?
Because they just post drugs and numbers, and both MJ and LSD are listed at 1000, while Heroin is 6 and Alcohol is 12? I'm confused

I wouldn't be too sure.......I feel like Obama tricked those of us who thought he would be the president to fight this foolishness.

The amount of times multiplied of an "effective dose" before it would harm you. Meaning if you take enough alcohol that'll get you %#$%+% up...and multiply x 12...you put yourself at risk. The formula makes sense. And that part of the article is research from one professor...I don't think it's meant for the reader to take one citation as "golden". It's just based on HIS research.
And of course the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration are going to publish numbers in favor of supporting the DEA. Alot of those statistics are BS...just like the ones on MDMA...but that's another topic.
