At a historic summit meeting, the first time a North Korean leader had ever set foot in the South, the leaders vowed to negotiate a peace treaty to replace a truce that has kept an uneasy peace on the divided Korean Peninsula for more than six decades, while ridding it of nuclear weapons. A peace treaty has been one of the incentives North Korea has demanded in return for bargaining away its nuclear weapons.

tl;dr

-both Koreas vow to end korean war officially
-end of n korea nuclear program... at least thats what N korea promises.

The new history starts from now on. At this starting point of the history of the era peace.

-Kim Jong Un wrote this in the visitor log at the peace house

we'll see what happens.
hope for the best but eh.

As positive as this may appear the pessimistic side of me says this move is unsettling for some reason.

This is way more unsettling. As someone that lived there for years most people viewed North Korea as an unfortunate uncle that you didn’t have to think too often about. Then wanting closer ties discussion peace etc is hard to understand and much more volatile. Broken promises etc are much more likely to start a real war than a country that just sticks to itself and yells loudly at air.

from reading comments from korean news, many native koreans seem to see this positively.
N korea has broken promises many times before so im sure S. Korea is on their toes. But seeing the two leaders come together like this could be the start of something new.

Looks like great progress, I just hope things stay headed in that direction. You never know at the end of the day with someone like Kim Jong Un.

Anyone who doesn't see this as a good thing... would things in the US have been better pre-civil war? Of course not. Things aren't going to be perfect, but it's a clear step in the right direction. If they do actually try something then a real war I'll finally be justified, but this is basically a Soviet Union move, they can't support their economy with just making weapons and stealing bitcoins. I feel like Trumps crazy *** might have actually had a little do with it in a way... Kim finally realized how much of an *** he looked like, and realized there is someone else out there that actually have nukes and is probably crazy enough to use them.

Don't trust the Korean "news." Feels like this season's Homeland is based on Korea and the weaponization of social media/media. They used a tragic ferry accident to oust a President...like Yvgeny in the show.

I said the comments. People's reaction to this. Also on instagram many native koreans see this positively as well from what I see.

Wasn't their 4 earthquakes caused by nuclear testing and they destroyed mountains where they were testing them and its falling apart so he decided to take the peace route?

so do they just brush aside all of the atrocities kim has committed?

I'm hoping for the best too but yeah, with KJU involved, I can't say I'm not expecting any funny business from him.
