im 6'0 175 pounds and want to dunk

what are some things i can do to increase my vert??

right now when i jump i cant even touch the rim.

Get in shape so lose weight if you have to
Strengthen your core. Abs/back
Hit the weights - Squats, Leg Press, Leg Extensions, Hamstring Curls, Setups using a chair or small box
Do plyometrics - Box jumps, Jump in place bringing your knees to your chest, Skips, etc
Dunk - actually go dunk after you play or workout.

There's alot of information out there. Just don't do Plyo back to back days thats bad for your knees. So every other day, 4 times a week is plenty

You can work on your legs, work on your core, get in shape etc. and that may do it for you.

However, my dad once told me that the only way to do something is...to do it.

I say that to say TRY TO DUNK. Every rim you see, try to bangout. By doing this, you're actually working the exact muscles you need to dunk, and over time, you'll get higher and higher until eventually, you'll be banging out.

ive been doing a lot of stuff but it hasnt help :{

im lacking calf muscles because i hate working them out. been squatting like crazy and strengthen my core, pathetic.

Plyometrics and weightlifting (Cleans) will get you there. It's all about getting those hips to fire. Gotta extend them. Truthfully, you have to make sure you have a powerful triple extension (ankles, knees, and hips).

When began dunking it was back when I would run daily, do a lot of core exercises, and actually practice dunking (working on the steps, how hard to put it through, etc.) I could always grab the rim with 2 hands but only dunked once in high school. Then in college I began doing a lot of core workouts and running. Our strength coach in college recommended a lot of core exercises and they really worked for me.

Only way to jump higher is to keep jumping. Lifting weights only makes you good at lifting weights, whole different muscle group/exercise.

I've got a very similar build to the OP and have always wanted to dunk but being built out of glass and battling with muscle tears and 2 hip surgeries prob means my barely grazing rim self will never realize that dream :(

Once I've fully recovered I do plan on going ham with my lifting as well as conditioning and hopefully plyos if my glass knees can withstand. I wonder if we can get some testimonials here :lol

And also, when going up for a dunk, I aim for the top of the box above the rim...that always helped starting off

Hates to break it to you but their isn't much you can do to increase your vertical, it's genetics bro, some people have it some people don't, no matter how much you work out.

i was dunking in ninth grade and didn't really do any lifting with my legs or in general.

i just kept jumping everyday trying to do it and did calf raises a lot, like 100 a day or something.

you probably know this, but there's a certain way to jump to make you get up higher. you have to bring one knee up like your about to knee someone and then lift off with the other.

i'm 6 1 and white btw. can't dunk anymore though, because i stopped.

:lol Okay. You can do all the air alert, calf raises, and jumping exercises you want OP. Go HAM, let us know what happens. My theory from being around the game my whole life is, if you haven't dunked by the end of High School you're never dunking. I don't know any legitimate dunker who wasn't dunking in High School, do you?
