How do I use my PS3 to run off my stereo system? VOL: Late Pass...

Hey fellas,

I have my HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV and then I have an HDMI cable running from my stereo to the TV. However I can't get the PS3 to utilize thestereo sound.
Any suggestions? I've heard of an Optical cable? But im dumb and cant figure it out..

Your TV works w/stereo? then how can't it w/ the ps3?

Never thought of that, makes sense.

Anyways, if the TV can output to the stereo in an aux mode, and the ps3's sound is being output through the TV which is also going through the stereo, isthere something blocking it?

Nothing is blocking it. It's just, as said before, they're both separate components, which is why you need to set the TV to video or HDMI in order toview the PS3.

Well my setup doesn't need all that. one connection to stereo from TV, set to AUX, anything else plugged in to TV works w/out anything else.

There is an option where you can select the audio output either TV speaker or external audio

dude, just plug your amp into your tv. anything else connected to the tv itself, i.e. your ps3 will play audio

No, it won't. Once he turns it to Video or HDMI or whatever and turns on the PS3, no sound will play.

if youre going to go optical, make sure to change the ps3 audio settingsi

wouldnt it just be easier if you went:

ps3 TO receiver (ps3 hdmi TO receiver hdmi-in)

receiver TO tv (receiver hdmi-out TO tv hdmi)

???

(rather than ps3 > tv > receiver)

then connect your stereo receivers HDMI out to your TV

this will only work if your receiver can decode audio through HDMI

+1. That's what I did too. If your receiver can pass audio through HDMI, this is the best way; otherwise, use optical cable.

If it does, though... do it that way.
