Well I`m going to a job fair tomorrow with my school, this may be a dumb question, but any insight on how these things work, and any tips?

Hopefully you get a gig out of this. Ask questions. Ask questions. Ask questions.

Did I mention ask questions?

Go in there and get to know what these companies do. Take resumes, cards, etc and get you one. Especially in this current economic mess

Make sure you dress up like you're dressing up for a real interview. Bring the resumes, cards, and all that good stuff. There's probably gonna be a tonof companies but also a lot of competition.

Like it is really possible to get a job from these? Are is it more of a networking "we`ll call you" type thing?

Do some research of the companies you know that will be there and the ones you are interested in.

Dress business casual. Bring copies of your resume in a folder. Show genuine interest and put yourself out there. I stopped going to job fairs because everyonewants at least a 3.3 GPA :/

1) dress up, as if you were to go to an interview.. these are usually HRs or recruits and its always wise to make a good first impression
2) bring TONS of resumes, depending on how many companies are there you don't want to be short a resume if needed
3) introduce yourself, ask questions, get involved... like many have said, it makes it seem like your interested

theres always a chance you'll score an interview or even job...

Be there on time and like dude said, research each company and see which one best fits what you're looking for.

it`s free and the school is taking a group of us, and I`m missing class so I said hey cant beat that.

You'll talk, the rep will nod and feign interest, then they'll hand you a card or sheet of paper with a link to the company's website and tell youto apply there. Rinse. Repeat.

You need to dress up as if you were going to an interview (so wear a suit).

Bring resumes. You should bring a decent amount but I'm willing to bet 99% of the companies will make you apply online anyway.

I've never really asked questions at fairs but I guess that's what I'm doing wrong. I suggest you ask questions because it shows interest so it's good for you.

3.3 GPA my *%!. Who are these companies you talked to? Hate when that %#%+ happens, you're trying to find a job and they slap with with some GPA nonsense like it really makes a difference whether you canperform the job or not.

I would stoneface you but there's partial truth in that statement.

I've been to two different kinds of fairs. I started working at my current gig of 10 years.
The first kind - Geared towards college kids and will have an array of different fields, companies, requirements etc.
I've actually gotten offers at these.

Second kind- Geared towards any demographic.... And I mean any
You will get there and there will be reps from fast food, and departments stores

I've left these

this is the only job fair anybody should go to especially if they're at school. +%+% going to job fairs that's geared for the generalpublic. Almost 95% of the time you'll leave with nothing.

add financial companies on that list too

i've been to the second kinda...tried to get me to be a recruit for BetaTech...went to two interviews and dude never called back...that stuff is a scamanyways...i would get and extra 200 if i could keep my recruits in school for 6 months...

i've heard of people getting hired on the spot, but the ones i've gone to were pointless.

People already covered the 'tips' part, but I think once you get there, depending on what type of person you are, you might feel really nervous at theidea of randomly talk to a potential future employer. My input in that kind of situation is it's hard to talk to the first company, but once you getstarted, before you know it you'll be out of resumes and your voice will hurt from talking so much. Just think of what you're going to say, maybe lurkaround and eavesdrop for the first 10-15 minutes to get an idea of what other, maybe more experienced people are doing. It'll be fine.

I`m not a shy person, but I am reserved. But I feel in a situation like this I may be able to shine, because I know how to talk. I think the only thing I maybe "shy" about is that initial "Hello, blah blah" Unless the HR people pull me to the side when they see me at a booth.

I forgot to look at the OP and it's Lucky.

Just dress like how do you, man...and if you have a resume, bring several copies like mentioned. It'ssad that some college kids can't even dress up correctly to the point where on the flier they have to add "DRESS TO IMPRESS!".

Don't be shy, but don't be that dude that doesn't shut up either. Good luck, man.

I'm going to my first one on wed... not really nervous, just going to try to give my resume to as many companies that I can...
