I personally wouldn't buy/lease one. Yea, they're great on gas. That's it though. Try beating someone when someone gets out of place.

I would have no shame in driving a Prius. Nothing wrong w/getting 40+ mpg!

But too bad I drive something totally opposite, and also getting half the mpg. But I wouldn't mind driving certain hybrids, and since the Prius is kinda THE hybrid, I'm down for a daily driver. I'm also lowkey feeling the CR-Z lol

Naw b.. as mentioned getta honda if gas mileage is y u want the prius. Otherwise... naw b.

I have a 2008 with 121,000 miles, and a 2011 with 16,000 miles, both purchased brand new in November 2007/2011 respectively.  I got the 2008 for $900 below invoice, and the 2011 for $1,700 below invoice (bought 11/30/11, last day of the month).
As for maintenance costs....the 2011 came with Toyota Care, so 2 yr./25,000 miles is covered.

It's possible that I could pay less if I just went through an independent, but with these two cars I've always just gone through dealership service.  I didn't add in the tires that I bought at 90K, so that might bring the total to  just around $3,800 in expenses for the car, or around $172 per service if you average it out over the life of ownership.

These are the actual services that have been done at random intervals other than routine oil change/tire rotation:

replace drive belt

clean throttle body

alignment

clean/adjust rear brakes

replace PCV valve

resurface rotors/replace shims

I was getting shafted during the first few services because I didn't really play close attention to the invoice, and saw that it was $60.00 to replace the cabin air filter - which I can do in a minute or less with a $15.00 part from a box auto parts store.  Same story for engine air filter.

After adding it all up, it kind of does seem like a lot, but this car has been pretty damn solid.  With average driving habits I still return 48-49 MPG on the regular, and if I drive very carefully, I can get 53-54 MPG.

Just to give you an idea of what is possible, this is from my drive this morning - to the courthouse, FedEx, coffeeshop, haircut, and home.

I wouldn't drive one, but I understand those people who have long commutes who need as much mpg as possible.

I feel that right now the technology in hybrids isn't good enough, so I'm not considering one yet, but later on when they are able to put more power into them while getting great mpg I'll definitely get one. Looking at the Porsche 918 the technology is just there, just need time for the technology to mature and the prices to go down.

My mom had one.

I hated driving it. But I did love being able to drive without worrying of having to pump gas into it.

i've been saying i'd love to have one for a while...especially now that i average about 11mpg in my new car lol

I was real close to copping a Camry Hybrid, that +#%%% was MAD SLOW.

So def no on pushing the Prius but the looks have really improved though.

some people actually like cars because they are car enthusiast and wanna go in... driving a Prius is so unsatisfying.....

I have nothing against them, it's just seems that the cost of battery replacement and the inability of hybrid cars to maintain their resale value will outweigh the savings. I'd just rather have a lightweight car that gets good gas mileage, and do my part to drive efficiently.

It's the truth.  There's nothing fun about driving a Prius.  It's tough to compare the acceleration of a 300+ HP V8 to the 100HP Prius crawl.  The new ones are better, they have a larger displacement engine and stronger electric motors plus POWER

mode that helps you merge pretty quickly, not as much lag as the the older models.
That said - if you asked me what I would rather drive on a daily basis - I would pick the Prius, and I'll tell you why.  When I had my Camaro, I could not resist running it at WOT almost everywhere I went.  From every stop light, stop sign, freeway on ramp, etc.  I made several runs to 155 MPH, routinely would push it above 100-110 just to hear the V8 roar.  But what's the point?  I got so many speeding tickets, and in so many stupid situations, that owning the car was a huge financial burden.  Why have the power if you can't really enjoy it?  I used to get around 10-13 MPG in that thing, and because of how I drove it, I went through tires every 10K miles, and put so much wear and tear on the engine and brakes that thing eventually just died on me.  Driving the Prius has taught me to be a responsible driver, because I just can't do the stupid %@%! that I used to anymore.

I'll just say this...everyone should own a muscle car/fast car at some point in their life.  Do I miss the all around driving ability of a sports car?  Sure.  For me, the Prius is just the smarter choice.  If I ever got a sport bike, I would eventually kill myself.  Prius is just a safe choice.
