Does anybody know anyone that has made this transition?  My family business is restaurants.  I cannot stand it anymore and the politics involved with the restaurants I have is getting on my nerves.  I graduated '07.  I majored in finance.  What kind of opportunities am I looking at?

Usually is the other way around, but since you have a degree you might starting to sent out resume to various company. That is a start.

I'm beginning to make this transition.

I've worked for a family-owned company since I got out of college in '03 and really love what I do.

Unfortunately, the company won't be viable in 20-25 years when everyone else retires (I'm by far the youngest person in the company) since I have no desire to deal with the day-to-day BS of running a business.

Like the person above said, just start putting your resume out there and see if it generates any interest. Talk with friends, relatives, anyone who may be able to point you in the direction of an opportunity.

In this economy, you can't over-do it when looking for a job. Good luck.

^Same here about the longevity of the business. The business is based on ten year contracts and we are already falling out of favor with contractor, so I do not want to get stuck later in life. And the headache here is not worth my time at all.

If your working at a restaurant you have probably met a lot of people. Networking is your friend in this job market...

Any more input? I have definitely put my resume out there. I was trying to get into finance; however, I have been unsuccessful.

Finance is one of those industries that has to be entered right out of undergraduate or you are put at a severe handicap. Employers will see that you have no relevant work experience and X number of years out of college.  It makes more sense to them to just go to their summer analyst class or directly recruit new undergrads.
